| 1. A Brief Introduction of the University |
The Inner Mongolia
University, founded in 1957,was established by China's Ministry of
Education as one of China's key universities in 1978, and is also
the only key national-level university in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous
Region. In 1997, the University became one of China's hundred "211
project" universities for key construction and development, The University
is located in the capital city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,
Huhhot, a city with a long history and rich culture beyond the Great
Wall.
At present, the University has 2269 staff members, including
1178 full-time teachers and 503 professors and associate professors.
A large number of outstanding scholars from the University,
contributors to outstanding research in their fields, hold important
positions in the Discipline
Assessment Group of the Academic Degrees Committee under the State
Council, the National Higher Education Guiding Committee on Science
and Art Teaching, and some international academic associations, The
University now has one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering,
211 doctotate and master's supervisors, 30 middle aged and young experts
with outstanding contributions both in national and regional levels,
and 70 teachers enjoying special pension delivered by the government. |

The
University consists of 15 colleges and faculties (altogether32 departments)
and another independent departments for general education, covering
41 undergraduatte programs, as well as 10 key disciplines either of
national or regional level, 61 disciplines are authorized to grant
master's degree (including one for MBA), and 17 to grant doctor's degree.
Three post-doctorate working stations are located in the University
as well. The Mongolian Studies center is one of China's hundred bases
for Humanity and Social Sciences Research. Quite a complete structure
of disciplines and majors has been established, covering such fields
as philosophy, history, literature, law, science, engineering, economics,
management, and art, etc. At the moment the enrollment of students
of different levels are about 17371.
Attaching equal importance to teaching and research, The
university is very active in undertaking research projects, both at
the national and regional level, and achieved much success. Research
reaults in the fields of Mongolology, Ecology, and Biological Engineering
for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry are recognized both nationally
and internationally, highlighting the ethnic and local characteristics
for the University. The Interner Center of I.M. Univ. has entered
into the CERNET (China Education Research NET) and associated with
the INTERNET. The Library of Inner Mongolia University is one of the
largest information and reference centers in Inner Mongolia Autonomous
Region, housing 1,300,000 volumes of books in different lauguages.
With the first rate installations, various recreational and sports
facilities and activities are provided in the University Gym-an ideal
multi-functional center for recreation and physical culture. The university
has steadily expanded international academic exchanges and cooperation,
eatablishing exchange programs with many overseas universities in
the United States, Japan, Canada, Finland, Australia, Republic of
Korea, Mongolia and Russia, etc. Visting scholars and students have
been sent to these countries and vice versa. The Inner Mongolia University
has built apartments for foreign experts and students. The International
College of Education under the university is a special institution
for international education, responsible for the admission, training
and daily administration. Within the College, there are the Han Chinese
Language and Script Discipline and the Mongolian Language and Script
Discipline. There are two kinds of scripts in Mongolian teaching;
one is Huihe (Ouigour) Mongolian which is the current Mongolian script
being used within the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The other
is Cyrillic Mongolian alphabet which is the current Mongolian script
being used in the Mongolia State. Based on the vocational
level of the foreign students, the Han Chinese courses are held at
four levels. There are the entrance class, elementary class, intermediate
class as well as the higher class. Generally each class contains no
more than 15 participants. Teachers adopt flexible teaching methods,
paying more attention to class discussion and individual coaching.
The students are taught with their aptitude in an intensified and
speeded-up mode. While focusing on the promotion of students, language
skills in class,the College organizes colorful cultural and language
activities so as to strengthen the students' understanding of the Chinese
culture, cultivating real skills in using the Han Chinese language.
Thus the students can acquire a solid foundation in language and culture
before they pursue the study of the vocational knowledge or seeking
for jods. With certain language foundation or the position of winners
of HSK exam (Chinese Proficiency Examination). In order to help foreign
students pass the HSK exam, the International College of Education
organizes special coaching class each year before the exam. With first-rate
living facilities the apartments for foreign experts and students
offer students from all over the world the best chance to study while
enjoy full convenience of daily life. In the foreign students dormitory
there are shared kitchens and laundries and single bed or double bed
rooms. Each room has a bath room , a desk, a TV set, and internet
connects. The surrounding of the foreign students dormitory is picturesque
and lyrical as an oasis with stretches of green grass and hanging
branches of various kinds of fast growing trees, forming an ideal
place for study and life. At present, the College has enrolled students
from the United States, Germany, Republic of Korea, Japan, Mongolia,
Russia and Syria, etc. The College helps and acts on behalf with various
kinds of certificates, such as Residence permits, Visa for Return,
Library Cards and Students' I.D. cards,etc, thus creating much convenience
for students' life and study.
Inner Mongolia is famous for its natural scenery as well as its rich
human tourism resources. The vast Xilin Gol grasslands and the boundless
Hulun Buir grasslands enjoy high prestige both home and abroad. People
feel absolutely going back to nature when galloping on the horse back
and enjoying the wild beauty.You may as well go to visit Genghis Khan's
(A Generation of Heavenly Pride) Mausoleum to share and appreciate
the great historic figure's lofty sentiments and splendid merits.
Besides, we also boast transport facilities. Inner Mongolia University
is located in Hohhot which is about 600 kilometers west of Beijing.
It needs only ten hours by train from Beijing to Hohhot. (a train
ticket only costs 20-30 U.S.D) And one hour by air .(an air ticket
costs about 55-60 U.S.D) We sincerely welcome students from all over
