The History of Modern Chinese Literature-the first digitalized course of IMU, goes online

In June, 2023, the History of Modern Chinese Literature taught by Cui Rong, Li Wang and Yun Tao who are with the College of Liberal Arts & Journalism officially went online and was published by China Renmin University Press, which is the first publication of the digitalized course among the schools of liberal arts of IMU. It marks the new progress of IMU in its service of the digitalized education in a new era and the development of digitalized courses.

                                             

The digitalized course of the History of Modern Chinese Literature is issued through the channels of China Renmin University Press around China. The publication of digitalized courses is a brand-new publication pattern that is formed in the extension of the tradition publication of textbooks to course publication. It can organically integrate the content of the courses, teaching activities and teaching environment and eradicate the limitations of the traditional publication of textbooks in contents and ways to present the textbooks. The publication of digitalized courses, an innovative publication pattern, makes the high-quality online courses protected as a digital intellectual property right like traditional textbooks to form a sound regime for online courses to develop sustainably and truly realize the joint construction and sharing of high-quality online courses.

The History of Modern Chinese Literature is a precise and detailed introduction to the beginning and development of the history of modern Chinese literature from 1917 to 1949. The orientation of the course is to be elite and upgraded. Due to this orientation, the course altogether includes 11 chapters which concern the following aspects: analysis of the artistic merits of the works of the typical modern writers like Lu Xun, Guo Moruo, Maodun, Laoshe , Bajin and Cao Yu and their contributions to the literary history; elaboration and analysis of important literary phenomena like the rise of the literary school of Peking and the literary school of New Sensation; explanation of the modern spiritual character of modern Chinese literature; and description of the growth and maturity of different literary genres like novels, poetry and dramas. The course tries to keep the consistency of the historical records while giving prominence to the key points and precisely elaborate the importance of those typical writers in modern Chinese literary history.
