In early February, the ground is covered with a thin layer of snow. IMU starts its new journey for building. On the morning of February 18, 2023, the grand foundation-laying ceremony for the infrastructure of the Base for Germplasm Innovation and Reproduction of Grassland Livestock of IMU(BGIRGL)was held in Horinger New Area.
Present at the ceremony were Liu Shuang, member of the CPC group of the Department of Science and Technology of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region(IMAR) and deputy director general of the department, Liu Jianhua, member of the CPC Group of the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of IMAR and deputy director general of the department, Zhao Yufeng, second-level inspector of the Department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry of IMAR, Zhu Jianguo, member of the CPC Group of Hohhot City Government and director of the Management Committee of Horinger New Area, Wang Wenzhi, CPC secretary and director general of the Center for Non-Profit Projects Invested by IMAR Government, Xu Dahai, deputy director of the Social Division of the Development and Reform Commission of IMAR, Han Ping, CPC secretary and president of Xingtai Building Group, members of the leadership of IMU, heads of different departments of IMU and teacher representatives of IMU. The ceremony was chaired by Liu Zhiyu, secretary of the CPC Committee of IMU.

Liu Zhiyu pointed out in his address that to implement the decision and arrangement of the Central Committee of the CPC, the State Council and the CPC committee of IMAR and IMAR government about the development of modern seed and breed industry, carry out the breakthrough research on the bottleneck problem of germplasm resources and fight an upswing battle of germplasm, IMU launched the building of infrastructure of BGIRGL on the basis of the actual conditions of China, IMAR and international frontier research. Liu said the building of BGIRGL is a key measure of IMU to open a new track and bring into being its new advantages, a strong engine to completely carry out the strategy for invigorating China through science and education, a strategy to strengthen China through talents and a strategy to boost innovation-driven development and a very important carrier to help the revitalization of seed and breed industry and realize the independence of science and technology of China.

The infrastructure of BGIRGL of IMU includes Research Building B, Research Building C and related supporting facilities. The whole floorage of the base is 22864㎡and altogether RMB191,747,600 will be invested in the building of the base. The project is a key measure taken by IMU during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period to drive innovation and improve its research level and innovation capacity and an important platform in its “Double-First Class” building endeavor. After the base is completed, the base will depend on the first-phase building of the base, actively integrate the related resources at home and abroad and gather the innovation forces to carry out the innovation of original theories and technologies in germplasm resources and reproduction of grassland livestock and strive to solve the scientific problems in the fields concerned and meet the industrial needs in IMAR. IMU will try its best in 5 to 10 years to build the base into a national key scientific infrastructure and a global innovation center for modern biological breeding of grassland livestock to help the high-quality development of IMAR, foster the national strategic scientific forces and improve the level to serve innovation-driven development.
