A delegation from the government of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region on June 4 went on a fact finding visit to learn about the research progress and the achievements of the grassland ecology research center at Inner Mongolia University, according to IMU officials.

The delegation was led by Li Bingrong, vice-chairman of the autonomous region.

It also learned about the sustainable utilization of degraded grassland and the optimal management of grassland.

Li fully affirmed and praised the research on the application of ecological grass-based animal husbandry technology carried out by IMU.

He especially highlighted the important role of the adaptive grazing technology applied to various livestock species. This was based on the stubble height of grassland and was first carried out by IMU in China, in the development of ecological priority grass-based animal husbandry.

Li called for strengthening the comparative study of new technology and traditional grazing technology, considering different grassland types and herd structures.

He also called for expanding the experimental demonstration area and putting together a feasible implementation plan, to guide the production and lifestyles of grassland herdsmen.

And he stressed that the task of grassland ecological protection and restoration was arduous.

Li said it was important to orientate to the realities of grassland area, respect the natural law – and explore the path to grassland protection and utilization guided by ecological priorities and green development.

What was also important, was to provide strong support for environmental protection and the high-quality development of the grassland pastoral area, the vice-chairman added.
