On the morning of May 28, 2021, the symposium on the development and planning of the IMU’s discipline of Chinese language and literature was held at NO. 6 Conference Room of the Academic Conference Center of IMU. Erhimbayaer, vice president of IMU, attended and presided over the symposium. Prof. Du Guiping with Beijing Normal University was invited to the meeting. Also present at the meeting were heads of the College of Literature, Journalism and Communication, the School of Mongolian Studies and IMU divisions concerned and some other experts and scholars.

Discussion

Erhimbayaer, vice president of IMU, introduced the basics of the development of the discipline of Chinese language and literature, the discipline’s general level and the challenges faced by the discipline. Wei Yonggui, dean of the College of Literature, Journalism and Communication, reported the building of the discipline of Chinese language and literature by his school. Erdunhada, deputy dean of the School of Mongolian Studies introduced the construction of the discipline of Chinese language and literature in his school. In terms of how to accelerate the building of the discipline of Chinese language and literature and nurturing of talents, the experts present at the symposium talked without any reserve about the preponderance, uniqueness and inadequacy of the fields they specialize in.

Prof. Du Guiping had a profound exchange with other attendees. She gave her critical and unbiased comment and advice on the big problems and inadequacies in the building of IMU’s discipline of Chinese language and literature, such as the choice of the development path and strategies of the discipline, optimization of the present arrangement of disciplines, building of talent teams and improvement of the academic influence of the research achievements.

In his concluding remarks, Erhimbayar, vice president of IMU, expressed his thanks to Prof. Du Guiping for her strategic and practical guidance and stressed that the discipline of Chinese language and literature should gather strength and form joint force to improve the level of the discipline and make great achievements in the future discipline evaluation and high-quality production.
