IMU hosts the 8th Sino-Mongolian Academic Seminar

From June 5 to 7, 2023, the 8th Sino-Mongolian Academic Seminar co-hosted by the Center for Studies of Mongolia of IMU and the School of International Relations and Public Administration of the National University of Mongolia, took place in Hohhot City.

Over 70 people attended the opening ceremony of the seminar. They included leaders from the Office of Foreign Affairs of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region(IMAR), the Publicity Department of the CPC Committee of IMAR, the Department of Education of IMAR, Inner Mongolia Federation of Social Science Circles and Hohhot Minzu College, Erhembayar, vice president of IMU, Du Fenglian, vice president of IMU, heads of the university’s departments concerned like the United Front Work Department, Office of Humanities and Social Sciences, Division of International Cooperation & Exchange, School of Mongolian Studies, School of Ethnology and Sociology and International College of Education.

At the 3-day seminar, over 50 experts and scholars held the activities themed Sino-Mongolian Relations in a New Era-Further Forging Model Relations among Nationslike giving keynote speech and having special academic sub-seminars and inspections, and had further discussions and exchanges. These experts and scholars are from such universities and research institutions at home and abroad as the National University of Mongolia, Mongolian Academy of Sciences, Peking University, Minzu University of China, Jilin University, Liaoning University, Liaoning Academy of Social Sciences, Tianjin Academy of Social Science, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian Minzu University, Dalian University of Foreign Languages, Inner Mongolia University, Inner Mongolia Normal University, Inner Mongolia University of Finance and Economics and Hohhot Minzu College.

At the opening ceremony, Erhembayar, vice president of IMU, said in his address that the seminar conducted the research, centering around such topics as the synergy between Mongolia's Development Road Strategy and China's Belt and Road Initiative, theories and practices in building the economic corrida among China, Mongolia and Russia, improvement on the cooperation in the field of mineral resources, improvement on the cooperation in humanities and tourism, port building and international cooperation zone building and improvement on the cooperation in environmental protection, and provided intelligent support for enhancing friendship and cooperation between China and Mongolia.

Battsetseg Altangerel, academic secretary of the School of International Relations & Public Administration of the National University of Mongolia, said in her addresses that “I’m very happy to conduct research on the relations between China and Mongolia with my Chinese peers and friends and contribute to the friendly relations between two countries. There is a Chinese saying ‘It takes ten years to sharpen a sword,’ It is very important for the experts to discuss the current international issues, the future plans and solutions at the new starting point in the 10th year of the seminar.”

 

Seminar

The hosting of “Sino-Mongolian Academic Seminar” is rotated between IMU and the National University of Mongolia. Since 2013, the seminar has been held 7 times. This seminar is the 8th one. Mongolia is the important neighbor of China to its north, the significant country through which “One Belt and One Road” Initiative is advanced northward and intermediate zone of “the Economic Corridor among China”, Mongolia and Russia. The academic exchanges between China and Mongolia are the important part of the cultural and educational exchanges and a form of people-to-people exchanges between two countries, which is conducive to forge the model relations between countries and boost the common aspiration of the peoples in “One Belt and One Road Initiative” and building of “the Economic Corridor among China”.
