Ten disciplines of IMU selected as the candidates for the 2nd round of building of “First Class Disciplines” of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region

Recently, the Education Department, Finance Department and Development and Reform Commission of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region(IMAR), has announced the list of universities and that of the disciplines which have been selected as the candidates for the 2nd round of building of “First Class Disciplines” of IMAR. Altogether 10 disciplines of IMU have been selected as the candidates for the 2nd round of building of “First Class Disciplines” of IMAR. And biology is selected as the candidate for the “First-Class Top-Notch Disciplines”; ecology, ethnology, chemistry, computer science and technology, Chinese language and literature, mathematics, physics and Marxist theories are chosen as the candidates for “ Cultivated First-Class Top-Notch Disciplines” and applied economics as the candidate for “First-Class Discipline to Be Built” .

In recent years, guided and supported by Inner Mongolia CPC Committee, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region government and the departments concerned, IMU has centered on the “Five Missions” and all-around building of a model autonomous region and continued to optimize the layout of its disciplines and majors. On the basis of the principle of “supporting advantageous disciplines, disciplines to meet the needs of the country, disciplines with their own unique characteristics and emerging disciplines”, IMU has poured energy into building strong disciplines, strengthening the development of basic disciplines and making arrangements in emerging and interdisciplinary branches of learning. As a result, 6 more first-level doctor degree programs are newly added. IMU has 13 first-level doctor degree programs now. Its chemistry, engineering science, environtology/ecology and material science have successively entered top 1% of ESI. The university has preliminarily formed a benignly interactive disciplinary system which has a reasonable structure and layout, outstanding advantages and characteristics and integrated cross-disciplines.

Next, the university will make use of the opportunities brought about by the approval from the autonomous region government in its 2nd round of the building of “First-Class Disciplines”, stick to laying emphasis on the global scientific and technological frontier, major economic development, national significant needs and people’s lives and healthbear in mind the key issues of the country, aiming at the academic frontier of the world and seize the opportunities provided by “Double First Class” construction and co-building by the autonomous region government and the Ministry of Education. According to the development path of “Forging Strong Scientific and Technological Research, Revitalizing Disciplines of Science, Enhancing Disciplines of Humanities, Strengthening Disciplines of Engineering and Expanding Cross-Disciplines ”, IMU will further optimize the development orientation and characteristics of its disciplines, endeavor to build the well-structured teams for its disciplines, forge a batch of open high-level platforms and bases for scientific research and push the level of its disciplines to a new high so as to provide the basic and strategic support for writing a new chapter of Inner Mongolia in Chinese modernization.
