IMU adds two new undergraduate majors

Inner Mongolia University (IMU) in Hohhot, capital city of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, added two new undergraduate majors, according to a statement released on the website of IMU on March 8.

Approved by the Ministry of Education, the two newly added majors are political science, economics and philosophy and vehicle engineering, according to IMU officials.

The major of political science, economics and philosophy is a new discipline, aiming to break the theoretical shortsightedness and thinking limitations caused by discipline isolation.

The major of vehicle engineering was added to meet the needs of industrial development of the autonomous region and the lack of specialized senior talent in the field of automobile engineering in China. The major focuses on training professionals with strong practical ability and innovative spirit who are engaged in product design and development, production and manufacturing, tests and detection, applications research, technical services, operations and sales, as well as management and other work related to vehicle engineering.

IMU officials said that, the automobile discipline at IMU has a long history there, where it has trained a large number of auto professionals for Inner Mongolia.

They added that the addition of the vehicle engineering major will better meet the needs of regional economic and social development for vehicle engineering professionals -- and cultivate more high-quality automobile industry professionals urgently needed for the country and the autonomous region.
