IMU group publishes key findings in authoritative journal

The international authoritative journal on bioinformatics -- Briefings in Bioinformatics -- on June 10 published online the research results of Professor Zuo Yongchun’s research team from Inner Mongolia University in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to IMU officials.

With the title RaacLogo: a new sequence logo generator by using reduced amino acid clusters, the research in the paper was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Inner Mongolia Outstanding Youth Cultivation Fund and the Inner Mongolia Youth Science and Technology Talents Project.

According to university officials, the research team is from IMU’s State key laboratory of reproductive regulation and breeding of grassland livestock. The published paper’s first author is IMU doctoral candidate, Zheng Lei and Professor Zuo Yongchun is the correspondent author.

In recent years, Professor Zuo has carried out a series of research work and conducted large data platform development around protein structure and function analysis based on amino acid reduction.

In 2017, his research group created the first international online analysis platform for biological big data of amino acid-reduced protein sequence.

The papers published in Briefings in Bioinformatics were selected as the first bibliographic publication papers of that year.

In 2019, the research group completed RAACBook, a database containing more than 700 reduction types.

These involved more complete amino acid reduction alphabets and the group developed a platform for protein feature extraction and functional classification predictions, based on artificial intelligence machine learning.

The results were published in the authoritative international biological database Journal Database and the related software was approved for computer software copyright.
