On June 23, 2020, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China announced the sixth batch of recommended candidates for National Rare Ancient Books and National-level Institutions for Rare Ancient Books Protection. Six ancient Mongolian books from Inner Mongolia University Library are listed among National Rare Ancient Books.
In order to better the protection of the ancient books of China and based on the requests from the Chinese central government, the State Center for the Ancient Books Protection, guided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, launched the selection and evaluation of the sixth batch of candidates for National Rare Ancient Books and National-level Institutions for Rare Ancient Books Protection. According to the applications from the ancient-books-storing institutions at different levels, the selection and evaluation of expert panel and advice from members of the National Joint Conference of Ancient Books Protection Departments, there are altogether 752 rare ancient books and 23 national-level institutions for ancient books protection selected.
Following are six ancient Mongolian books from Inner Mongolia University Library that have been chosen:
(00693) Vowels and Consonants, written by Gunbuzab in Qing Dynasty, a block-printed edition.
(00694) Diamond Sutra, a transcript edition written in Nijin(material made of glue and powdered gold)in the early Qing Dynasty .
(00695) The Rituals and Steps for Worshiping Master Lamas, written by Losancuizizab, the fourth Panchen Lama in Qing Dynasty, a transcript edition written in red.
(00697) Outlaws in the Marsh, written by Shi Naian in Ming Dynasty, a transcript edition of Qing Dynasty
(00698) A Journey to the West, written by Wu Cheng’en and translated by Lobsanzuri in Qing Dynasty, a transcript edition of Volume 3 and 4 in Qing Dynasty
(00699) A Dream of Red Mansions, written by Cao Zhan and translated by Hasboo, a transcript edition in Qing Dynasty.
