On the afternoon of August 7, 2020 and also on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Mongolian Studies Center(MSC) of IMU, the ceremony for appointing the new director of MSC took place in No. 6 Conference Room of IMU Academic Meeting Center.

The ceremony was chaired by Erhembayar, vice president of IMU. Zhu Bingwen, seretary of IMU CPC Committee read IMU’s decision to appoint Uyunbilig director of MSC and Uyongerel deputy director of MSC at the ceremony. Chen Guoqing, president of the university, conferred the certificate of distinguished professor on Uyunbilig. Attendees also included Professor Chimuddorji, former director of MSC, all staff members of MSC and leaders from the School of Mongolian Studies, the School of Ethnology and Sociology, the Department of Mongolian History, the Center for the Studies of Mongolia and the Office of Humanities and Social Sciences.

At the ceremony, Chen Guoqing introduced the key achievements that have been made by MSC in the past 20 years, affirmed the founding, leading and pioneering work that has been done by Professor Chimuddorji, former director of MSC, for the development of the center and the related disciplines, and expressed sincere thanks to the professor for his great contributions. Chen also gave a brief introduction to Professor Uyunbilig and spoke highly of his noble quality that he has always been bearing in mind his homeland and his alma mater. Chen believed that Professor Uyunbilig will lead MSC to make more academic achievements. He said that the university will try its best to support the development of MSC and hoped that MSC can take more and more historic opportunities for its development and open up a new prospect for its future.

Professor Chimuddorji introduced the glories and hardships that MSC has experienced in its development. He thanked the university for the great importance that it has attached to MSC in the past 20 years and the university’s affirmation of MSC’s academic achievements, and wished the further flourishing of MSC under the leadership of Uyunbilig. Professor Uyunbilig thanked IMU for its approval of and trust in him. He said that he has fully realized the important role that MSC plays at the university in such aspects as discipline construction, talent training and service of society. He said that he will accomplish his work with the support of the university and make his own contributions to the discipline development of the university.

In his concluding remarks, Zhu Bingwen, secretary of IMU CPC Committee, affirmed the prominent achievements MSC has made in its 20-year history. He thanked Professor Chimuddorji for his heart-and-soul devotion to MSC’s development and congratulated Professor Uyunbilig on being appointed director of MSC. Zhu hoped that MSC can fully understand the instructions given by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee when he inspected IMU, should be unified in thinking and action, remember the original aspiration of academics for the people and keep in mind the mission of rejuvenating the nation with knowledge. He expected that led by Professor Uyunbilig, all at MSC can work together toward an academic development peak and contribute more to Mongolian studies and Double First-Class Initiative at IMU.
After the ceremony, Uyunbilig, new director of MSC, gave an academic report for the representatives of teachers and students of IMU.
