The unveiling ceremony for the Research Center of the Community of the Chinese Nation and the Research and Education Base for the Creation of the Sense of the Community of the Chinese Nation of Inner Mongolia University was held at No. 8 Meeting Room of the Academic Convention Center of IMU in the morning of August 21, 2020. More than 60 people including Zhu Bingwen, secretary of the CPC Committee of IMU, Chen Guoqing, vice secretary of the CPC Committee and president of IMU, Yi Song, vice president of the Academy of Social Sciences of Inner Mongolia, Prof. Chimeddorji, director of the Department of Mongolian Studies of IMU, experts from other universities and scientific research institutes including the Academy of Social Sciences of Inner Mongolia, Inner Mongolia Normal University, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, Inner Mongolia University of Finance and Economics and representatives of faculty members and students of IMU attended the ceremony presided over by Prof. Erhenbayar, vice president of IMU.

In his speech, president Chen Guoqing pointed out that the fact that the application of the Research Center of the Community of the Chinese Nation of IMU had been accepted and the Center had been selected as one of the five Research and Education Bases for the Creation of the Sense of the Community of the Chinese Nation in China stands as a concrete action of IMU’s implementation of the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions during his inspection of IMU in 2019 and an indicator of another major progress IMU had made in the building of national-level scientific research platform in the field of humanities and social sciences. While fully affirming the new opportunities to be brought about by the Base, president Chen Guoqing emphatically remarked that in the process of the building of the Base, the creation of the sense of the community of the Chinese nation should be taken as the guideline, service to the ethnic work of the Party and the State should be taken as the primary task, and efforts should be made from the perspectives of national politics, national economy, national society, national culture, national solidarity and relations among nationalities to incessantly deepen and enhance the theoretical consciousness and practical innovation of the sense of the community of the Chinese nation, to produce a large amount of achievements of scientific research, and to provide essential theoretical foundation and intellectual support for creating the sense of the community of the Chinese nation and promoting national solidarity and progress.

Prof. Altanbulag, the newly appointed director of the Center, expressed his resolution to live up to the expectations, cherish the opportunity, gather strength of his team, sincerely invite experts both in Inner Mongolia and from other parts of China to forge a platform of innovation, organize and launch research projects for creating the sense of the community of the Chinese nation, fulfill quality and quantity requirements in accomplish the tasks assigned by the State and the autonomous region, and to make due contributions to the cause of national solidarity and progress.

The Seminar on the Research Theories and Methodologies for Creating the Sense of the Community of the Chinese Nation in the Ethnic Areas in the North was held after the ceremony. Experts in the relevant fields from IMU, the Academy of Social Sciences of Inner Mongolia, Inner Mongolia Normal University, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University and Inner Mongolia University of Finance and Economics conducted intensive exchanges and discussions over the orientation, contents and methods of the Research Center of the Community of the Chinese Nation of IMU. The experts present at the meeting remarked that they would continue to pay attention to and support the academic research work of the Research Center of the Community of the Chinese Nation of IMU and would make their contributions to enhancing the influence of the ethnic research in Inner Mongolia, grasping firmly the discourse power, spreading the local experience of Inner Mongolia as a model autonomous region, and promoting the work of national solidarity in Inner Mongolia.
