Master the standard spoken and written Chinese language to strive to be the backbones for the construction of the country

As the first comprehensive university founded by the CPC and the State in areas inhabited by ethnic minorities since the birth the Peoples Republic of China in 1949, IMU has always attaching great importance to inheriting and promoting the excellent cultural achievements of all ethnic groups in the past six decades since its founding and has set up three ministerial-level research centers including the Research Center of the Community of the Chinese Nation of IMU. Chen Guoqing, vice secretary of the CPC Committee and president of IMU and vice director of the Operations Research Society of China remarked that young college students should master the standard spoken and written Chinese language to strive to be backbones for the construction of the country during an interview by NMTV today.

Chen Guoqing, vice secretary of the CPC Committee and president of IMU, vice director of the Operations Research Society of China: to master the standard spoken and written Chinese language is essential for students of all ethnic groups to grasp modern technology and cultural knowledge, learn the excellent traditional Chinese culture, study the mainstream culture of the country, enhance the interactions, exchanges and fusion among all ethnic groups and propel their common solidarity, progress, prosperity and development.

As the times change rapidly and our great motherland grows increasingly prosperous with each passing day, the standard spoken and written Chinese language, which is used among the 1.4 billion Chinese people of all ethnic groups, carries far more knowledge and information of the modern human civilization than any of the languages of the ethnic minorities at the moment. To master the standard spoken and written Chinese language is essential for grasping modern technology and cultural knowledge, learning the excellent traditional Chinese culture, studying the mainstream culture of the country, enhancing the interactions, exchanges and fusion among all ethnic groups and propelling their common solidarity, progress, prosperity and development. We should, in addition, grasp at least one foreign language in order to learn directly the excellent cultures of the humanity as a whole and expand opening to and exchanges and collaboration with the world. Only in this way can we better keep up with the pace of the times developing rapidly, better adapt to the incessantly changing society, be capable of competing in the national and global arena, act as leaders and backbones of various sectors, stand on the tide bravely, and make greater contributions to the construction of our model autonomous region of the new era and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The excellent cultures of all the ethnic minorities being an important part of the excellent Chinese culture, many college students of ethnic minorities, while striving to master the standard spoken and written Chinese language, feel at the same time the urgency and sense of mission to grasp their mother tongue and inherit and develop the excellent culture of their own ethnic groups, which has always received the attention, support and assistance of the Party and the government. General secretary Xi Jinping pointed out during his inspection in Chifeng on July 15, 2019 that, Our Chinese civilization is the only civilization in the world which has never been interrupted in its course of development. It is imperative to attach importance to the preservation and inheritance of the cultural relics of ethnic minorities. During his inspection in Inner Mongolia University on July 16, Xi emphasized the importance to strengthen the collection, organization and preservation of ancient Mongolian books and extract the positive ideas for ethnic harmony so as to encourage people of all ethnic groups to make concerted efforts for common prosperity and development.

Young college students of the new era with lofty ideals should actively respond to the requirements put forward in the speech of Bu Xiaolin, chairperson of the Peoples Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region delivered on September 1 to consciously put into practice the working arrangement of the Party and the government concerning the popularization of the standard spoken and written Chinese language. They should follow the instruction of the General Secretary to embrace far-reaching aspirations and down-to-the-earth attitude, respect the natural laws, firmly master the knowledge, lay a solid foundation, keep improving themselves, and strive to grow into backbones for the construction of the country and contribute their wisdom and strength to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
