To implement the project of the digitalization of language resource and the building of database for Uighur Mongolian literature, the Northeast Asian Language Resource Center of IMU has recently organized an expert team for academic surveys across the autonomous region to collect as much as possible first-hand literature and materials.

The team discovered rock inscriptions in Uighur Mongolian from Yuan dynasty at Yorya Gacha, Bayanuull Township, Bairin Left Banner, Chifeng. The inscriptions consist of 10 pieces and are carved in black paint in a rock. Centuries of weathering has severely faded the ink and made much of the inscriptions unreadable. Repeated examinations by the expert team consisting of Prof. Nasunurt from IMU, the chief expert of the project, Prof. Gardi from Inner Mongolia Normal University and chief of the sub-project, Prof. Wen Ying from Northwest Minzu University, Duo Xi, director of the Literature and History Museum of the People’s Political Consultative Conference of Chifeng and local experts including Zorigt, Culuunbagan and Altant, etc affirmed the inscriptions as Uighur Mongolian from Yuan dynasty inscribed on the border wall of the kingdom Jin.

Prior to this discovery, the project team had discovered rock inscriptions of the same kind and conducted digital storage accordingly in Hexigten Banner of Chifeng, Jarud Banner of Tongliao, Horqin Right Front Banner, Horqin Right Middle Banner and Arxan of Hinggan League. The project team have advised the local authorities to take protective measures for cultural relics including building rails to ensure the future scientific research and cultural inheritance endeavors.

Presently the project team are handling the Uighur Mongolian inscriptions from Yuan dynasty discovered this time with the latest digital technical methods and making attempts to identify and interpret their contents.
