Meeting on pressing ahead with the Exploration, Reorganization and Studies of the Ancient Tibetan Books about Mongolians in Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty-the key project funded by the National Social Science Fund of China, held at IMU

The ancient Tibetan books about Mongolians are a part of Chinese culture and the crystallization of the mutual integration and learning of different cultures of different ethnic groups. In order to pass down and develop the splendid Chinese traditional culture and push forward the exploration, reorganization and studies of the ancient Tibetan books about Mongolians, the research team for the Exploration, Reorganization and Studies of the Ancient Tibetan Books about Mongolians in Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty-the key project funded by the National Social Science Fund of China, held a meeting on the projects progress with Inner Mongolia Association for the Studies of the Cultural Heritage of Ethnic Groups in Northern China on the north campus of IMU on November 24, 2020. The meeting consists of two parts; the meeting on pushing forward the project and academic lecturing.

Meeting

The meeting was held in No. 4 meeting room of the Academic Conference Center of the university. Present at the meeting were more than 30 people including the members of the project research team,  Erhenbayar, vice president of IMU, Professor Lcagsthar Rgyal, deputy dean of the Minzu Teachers’ College affiliated to Qinghai Normal University, Professor Siqinmengh, expert with the discipline-appraising group of the National Social Science Fund of China, Professor Uyunbilig, distinguished professor with Changjiang Scholars Program of the Ministry of Education, executive deputy dean of the School of Chinese Classics of Renmin University and director of Mongolian Studies Center of IMU, Professor Chen Ganglong with Peking University, Professor Yerda with Minzu University of China, Edentogto, research fellow and director of the Center for the Studies of Philosophy and Religions of Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences Baatu research fellow of Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Dahurbayar, director of the Office of Humanities and Social Sciences of IMU, Professor Wu Yingzhe, executive deputy dean of the School of Mongolian Studies, and Shulin, chief expert with the key project of the Exploration, Reorganization and Study of the Ancient Tibetan Books about Mongolians in Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, part-time professor of IMU and deputy director of the Center for Literary Studies of Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences.

At the meeting, Erhenbayar, vice president of IMU, delivered a speech. On behalf of the university, he welcomed the experts present at the meeting and expressed his sincere thanks to the experts who, in his words, had taken trouble and spared their precious time to attend the meeting for their focus on and devoted guidance of the progress of the project. He briefly reviewed the different phases of the project and spoke highly of what had been done under the leadership of the project’s two chief experts, Mr. Erdunbayan and Shulin, research fellow, and the pivotal role the project has played in the development of IMU’s disciplines and studies of humanities and social sciences. He said that the university will continue to focus on and support the studies of the project and demanded that the university’s departments concerned should provide the project with support in different aspects. He hoped that the project team would complete the studies of the project on time under the leadership of Shulin, chief expert of the project, and made the contributions it should in the “Double-First Class” construction of the university.  

Wu Yingzhe, executive deputy dean of the School of Mongolian Studies, chaired the meeting and said that the School of Mongolian Studies would continue to provide the strong support for the progress of the project.

Shulin, chief expert with the project, part-time professor of IMU and deputy director of the Center for Literary Studies of Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences, made a work report on the project. Since the project was approved in 2014, Shulin has been the leader of a sub-project of the Exploration, Reorganization and Study of the Ancient Tibetan Books about Mongolians in Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty and assisted Erdunbayan, then chief expert of the project to carry out the studies of the project. On August 31, 2020, the National Office of the Philosophy and Social Science Work approved the appointment of Shulin as the new chief expert of the project. Shulin introduced the project to the meeting in his work report in the following four aspects: the adjustments of the project, progress in the studies, plan for the future work and difficulties the research team is facing. In the report, he elaborated at great length on how the project had proceeded, what achievements had been made in the studies, and systematically planned how the project would be further pushed ahead. With detailed and accurate data and materials, he showed the great amount of literature the research team had collected and great achievements the team had made in the reorganization and studies of the project. On behalf of the research team, he expressed his sincere gratitude to the leaders of IMU at different levels and the universitys various departments and schools concerned for their strong support.

The experts present at the meeting, with a broad and long-term view, gave the systematic guidance to the literature collection, data base construction, special studies and publishing achievements, and had a top-level design for the project.

At the meeting, Professor Dahurbayar, director of the Office of Humanities and Social Sciences of IMU, concluded the meeting by saying that his office would try its best to serve the project.

The academic lecture was given in No. 116 conference hall of Zhixing Building. Professor Uyunbilig, distinguished professor with Changjiang Scholars Program of the Ministry of Education, executive deputy dean of the School of Chinese Classics of Remin Universityand, director of Mongolian Studies Center of IMU, gave a lecture on the exchanges between Mongolian culture and Tibetan culture found out in the Mongolian letters kept in Tibet Archives Center. The lecture was chaired by Shulin, part-time professor of IMU and research fellow and executive deputy director of the Literary Studies Center of Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences.

With the devotion and strong support of the experts present at the meeting, the meeting on pressing ahead with the key project approved and funded by the National Social Science Fund-the Exploration, Reorganization and Studies of the Ancient Tibetan Books about Mongolians in Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, dropped its curtain successfully. At the meeting, the attendees acquired knowledge of the different phases of the project and achievements mad in the studies of the project, systematically planned the future work of the project with the collective wisdom and expressed their expectations for the successful completion of the project.
