New breakthroughs and new progresses achieved by IMU in obtaining approvals of major and key projects sponsored by the National Social Sciences Fund of China in 2020

In the year 2020 which concludes the 13th and ushers the 14th Five Year Plans, IMU maintains a momentum of steady growth in obtaining approvals for major projects sponsored by the National Social Sciences Fund of China, as characterized by significant increases in numbers of projects approved and further expansion of the disciplinary fields covered by the approved major and key projects, indicating the distinctive features, considerable strength and profound academic foundation of IMU in its researches in humanities and social sciences.

In 2020 IMU further upgraded its application tier in accordance with its research basis and academic accumulation, expanded its scope of application, and covered practically all the categories presently available under the National Social Sciences Fund of China in organizing applications. Through overall coordination, strict demonstration, meticulous selection and application conducted by IMU, Studies of the Contacts among Mongolian, Chinese and Tibetan Languages Based on Literature in Phags-pa Scripts, a major project applied by IMU for 2020 under the National Social Sciences Fund of China, has been approved for publicity in the disciplinary field of linguistics; 16 projects were granted sponsorship by the National Social Sciences Fund of China, among which 3 are key projects covering the disciplinary fields of jurisprudence, ethnology and linguistics. IMU achieved the largest number of projects with the widest disciplinary scope granted sponsorship in one year by the National Social Sciences Fund of China in the autonomous region. It was also the first time in Inner Mongolia to have a key project in the field of jurisprudence.

IMU has always attached importance to connotative development by focusing on major and innovative themes, giving full play to features and advantages in researches and pooling strength in tackling major and key national-level scientific research tasks. Since its first major project approved in 2013, IMU has so far obtained 17 major projects and 9 key projects with the sponsorship of the National Social Sciences Fund of China. In the Academic Ranking of Universities in China for 2020, IMU ranks the 32nd in the number of approved major projects with the sponsorship of the National Social Sciences Fund of China since the beginning of the construction of Double First-Class university.
