Recently the Ministry of Education issued Decisions of the Ministry of Education on the 8th Excellent Achievements in Scientific Researches (Humanities and Social Sciences). As a result of well-planned organization of application and preliminary selection and recommendation, IMU achieved historic breakthrough in the class and number of prizes in the 8th Excellent Achievements in Scientific Researches (Humanities and Social Sciences) and scored new heights with 3 prizes awarded, including 2nd Prizes for Contemporary Construction of the Theories of World History written by Ye Xianming and Restudies of the Khitan Small Scripts written by Cengeltei, Wu Yingzhe and Zurh, 3rd Prize for Studies of Automatic Analysis of Dependency Parsing of Mongolian written by S Loglo, ranking the 1st among all the applying institutions in Inner Mongolia and 87th nationwide in the class and number of prizes. Since the 12th Five Year Plan, IMU has scored a 3rd Prize in the 6th and a 2nd Prize in the 7th Excellent Achievements in Scientific Researches by the Ministry of Education. Five prizes have been awarded so far, including three 2nd Prizes and two 3rd Prizes, with a rising tendency in the class and number of prizes.
Contemporary Construction of the Theories of World History, an academic monographic work of 548,000 words written by Ye Xianming, holds a leading position in the studies of Marxist theories in the academic realm in China. Based on studies of the features of Marxist theories of world history, the work explicitly and systematically proposes and interprets the fundamental issues and significance of the theories of world history, the principles and significance of the “world history time” in theories of world history, the principles and significance of the dual structure of world history and the ethnic outlook and outlook of times as constituents of theories of world history, makes criticism of globalization and its development from the perspective of world history, and proposes and interprets the logic and methodology for the theories of world history to excel the theory of Western Nucleus from the perspective of the integration of subjects and objects, thus providing an optional way of thinking for the contemporary construction of Marxist theories of world history. The work is tremendously influential in the academia, and was commented by some scholars as “having realized contemporary reconstruction of Marxist theories of world history, and will exert gradual influence on the development of Marxist theories and the entire humanities and social sciences in China”. The stage achievement of the work was awarded 2nd Prize in the 7th Excellent Achievements in Scientific Researches (Humanities and Social Sciences) of Institutions of Higher Learning.
The academic monographic work Restudies of the Khitan Small Scripts of three volumes and 2.01 million words written by Cengeltei, Wu Yingzhe and Zurh represents the supreme achievement in the field of the studies of Khitan scripts in the world. In studies of script shapes, the project team drew extensively on publications worldwide on studies of Khitan scripts, checked repeatedly against original rubbings and tablets before they produced the new List of the Original Scripts with 453 original scripts. In studies of the meanings of the scripts, the project team made an overall rearrangement of the achievements of relevant studies worldwide and extracted 3,150 reliable or attention-worthy entries. The monographic work is the final achievement of the major project Restudies of Khitan Small Scripts of the Center for Mongolian Studies of IMU, one of the 100 key research bases of the Ministry of Education for studies of humanities and social sciences, the mid-term achievement of Rearrangement and Studies of the Remaining Documents in Khitan and Jurchen Scripts, a major project of the Ministry of Education for studies in philosophy and social sciences, and a key book of the 12th Five Year Plan sponsored by National Publication Foundation. The book has been awarded 1st Prize in the 7th Excellent Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences of Inner Mongolia, Prize of Nomination in the 7th Excellent Books in China and 2nd Prize in Excellent Achievements in Scientific Researches of Institutions of Higher Learning in China.
Based on achievements of studies of traditional grammar of Mongolian, S Loglo’s academic monographic work Studies of Automatic Analysis of Dependency Parsing of Mongolian makes use of the theories and methodologies of dependency parsing, proceeds from the actual needs for building a Mongolian corpus, analyzes and summarizes dependent relationship between words in sentences in Mongolian, and proposes a marking system for the dependent relationship including collections of marks, norms of marking and methods of marking. On the basis of such a marking system, the method of the combination of rules and statistics is adopted, intensive studies of the method of analysis and calculation of dependency parsing in Mongolian are conducted, and three syntactic analysis models are proposed, namely the rule-base model, the statistics-based model and the model combining rules and statistics.
Started in 1995, Excellent Achievements in Scientific Researches (Humanities and Social Sciences) of the Ministry of Education is the most creditable and influential prize in the field of philosophy and social sciences in China, which takes place every 3 or 4 years and has been carried out successfully for 8 times. The prizes are an important measure of the Ministry of Education to recognize prominent achievements of researchers in philosophy and social sciences working in universities and colleges, display the important theoretical and practical achievements of the circle of social sciences in universities and colleges in serving the development of the undertakings of the Party and the country, and promote the acceleration of the building of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics in universities and colleges. All the schools/colleges/centers of IMU are expected to sum up their experiences of success, forge ahead with determination, organize carefully, cultivate more academic achievements of high level and score new heights in winning prizes, and the prize-winners are expected to carry out research work earnestly, produce more achievements of high level, substantially improve the contribution, quality and level of their academic achievements, and make greater contributions to national strategies, regional development and IMU’s endeavor in the building of Double First Class university.
