2021 Symposium on Frontier Synthetic Chemistry of IMU held at the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of IMU

The 2021 Symposium on Frontier Synthetic Chemistry of IMU organized by the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of IMU was held at the Academic Conference Center on May 21-23, 2021. Thirteen first-class experts in chemistry, including 11 awardees of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, were invited to attend the symposium to exchange views in the foremost frontier areas in the realm of synthetic chemistry in recent years. Gao Guanglai, vice president of IMU, Zhu Baohua, vice director of the Division of Science and Technology of IMU, Wang Qin, vice director of the Division of Development Planning of IMU and representatives of the faculty members and students of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of IMU attended the symposium.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Prof. Gu Xiaojun, (presiding) vice dean of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. In his welcoming speech on behalf of IMU, Gao Guanglai, vice president of IMU, extended warm welcome to the experts present at the symposium, expressed sincere thanks to the experts for their support and help to IMU all along, and gave introduction to the construction of first class disciplines, talent training and scientific and technological innovation of IMU. Prof. Xue Dongfeng spoke on behalf of the experts present at the symposium that they would join hands with the faculty members and students of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering to contribute to the high-quality development of IMU.

Research Fellow Wang Chunru from the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Wang Wei from Lanzhou University, Prof. Tan Bin from Southern University of Science and Technology, Prof. Tang Pingping from Nankai University, Research Fellow Shi Weiqun from the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Research Fellow Zhong Yuwu from the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences were invited to give reports on organic synthetic chemistry, crystal engineering, functional organic material chemistry and other frontier and hot issues of research and conducted intensive exchanges and discussion with the attendees of the symposium.

A seminar on the development planning of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering for the 14th Five-Year Plan was held during the symposium at which vice dean Gu Xiaojun gave an overall presentation on the history, faculty, talent training, scientific research platform, orientations for future development and deficiencies of the college. Wang Qin, vice director of the Division of Development and Planning and Zhu Baohua, vice director of the Division of Scientific and Technology gave interpretations on the development planning of IMU during the 14th Five-Year Plan. Zhang Jun, vice director of Inner Mongolia Science and Technology Institute, gave an introduction to the endeavors of Inner Mongolia in industry-university-research cooperation in the fields of chemistry, chemical engineering and materials. The experts present at the symposium highly appreciated the achievements of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and put forward valuable suggestions and advice to the college on the training of high-quality talents, setup of orientations of scientific research, building of high-level scientific research platforms, innovations in systems and mechanisms etc. during the 14th Five-Year Plan.

The successful convening of the symposium is of great significance to further enhancing the prestige of IMU in the field of chemistry and promoting the high-quality development of the first-class disciplines in chemistry.
