The 2021 Annual Conference of the Mathematical Image Alliance hosted by the School of Mathematical Sciences of IMU

The 2021 Annual Conference of the Mathematical Image Alliance was hosted on a grand scale by the School of Mathematical Sciences of IMU in Hohhot on July 23-26, 2021. More than 300 renowned Chinese or foreign experts and scholars, including laureates of the prize awarded by Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, winners of Feng Kang Prize, fellows of the American Mathematical Society, fellows of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, scholars sponsored by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, the National Science Fund for One Thousand Young Scholars and the National Science Fund for Top-notch Young Talents attended the conference either online or offline to discuss frontier scientific issues centering on image processing and related fields.

At the opening ceremony, Prof. Chen Guoqing, vice secretary of the CPC Committee and president of IMU, delivered a welcoming speech in which he extended warm welcome and expressed thanks to the experts and scholars attending the conference on behalf of IMU and introduced the course of construction and development of IMU. President Chen Guoqing pointed out that in recent years big data, cloud computing and other digital economies had been developing rapidly in Inner Mongolia with significant achievements, as indicated by the success in obtaining the approval to build state-level big data infrastructure comprehensive development piloting area in 2016 and the the country’s largest capacity of data center server of more than 1.1 million units. With the suggestion and direct involvement of IMU, the Light of the Green City--a high-performance computing public service platform was built and put into operation in Hohhot, which ranked the 4th place among the top 100 high-performance computers in performance in 2020 and found its place among the super computers with the strongest computing powers in China, and which provided strong support in computing capacity for the development of numerical computation-related fields of IMU. The convening of the annual conference of the Mathematical Image Alliance was of great significance for strengthening cooperation and exchanges among Chinese and foreign experts in mathematics, image processing and related fields and promoting research and development in these fields. President Chen Guoqing expressed his wishes that the experts could give their advice to IMU, particularly to the construction and development of the mathematical discipline of IMU and recommend excellent talents to IMU during the conference.

Prof. Kong Dexing, chairman of the conference, delivered an important speech in which he expressed his wishes that the scholars attending the conference air their opinions and suggestions, open up new thought patterns in their discussions and exchanges, and make concerted efforts to promote the clinical application and development of mathematical and physical technologies in bio-medicine.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Liu Quansheng, vice dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences.
