On July 18-21, 2021, a team consisting of faculty members and students of the School of Physical Science and Technology of IMU attended the 7th China Undergraduate Physics Experiment Competition (Teaching Competition) on behalf of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and achieved excellent results with 1 national second prize and 3 national third prizes.
Approved by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, the Competition is designed to inspire university students’ interest and potential in physical experiments, cultivate their innovative capability, practical capability and awareness of teamwork and coordination and usher in reforms in the teaching of physical experiments. The 7th China Undergraduate Physics Experiment Competition (Teaching Competition) was sponsored by the National Demonstration Center for Experimental Education, the National Research Association for Experimental Physics Education in Institutions of Higher Learning and the Physics Education Committee of the Chinese Physical Society, and organized by Tianjin University, Nankai University and Tianjin Physical Society. More than 100 teachers and more than 400 students from 112 universities nationwide including Peking University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Chongqing University, Dalian University of Technology and Inner Mongolia University attended the competition.

The team representing IMU to attend the competition was headed by Associate Prof. Zhang Changzai, faculty member Zhang Xu and Zhao Qiaoni, director of the General Affairs Office of the Students’ Union of the School of Physical Science and Technology, and consisted of the following members: Chen Shiyu, student majoring in Applied Physics of Grade 2018, Zhang Huanyu, student majoring in Applied Physics of Grade 2019, Zhang Ziyong, student from the Base of Mathematics and Physics (Physics Direction) of Grade 2018 and Xu Mingkai, student majoring in Applied Physics of Grade 2019 of the School of Physical Science and Technology.

With their sound theoretical foundation and meticulous attitudes in experiments, the team representing IMU was given unanimous high praise by the judges in the fierce and well-organized competition and won excellent results. Of the team members, Chen Shiyu won a national 2nd Prize, Zhang Huanyu, Zhang Ziyong and Xu Mingkai won national 3rd Prizes. The achievements of the excellent results not only enhanced the capability of the students who attended the competition in independent thinking, practicing and innovating in experiments, opened up a new path to cultivate innovative talents in physics, but also played a positive role in accelerating reforms in education in physical experiments.
