Early spring is the right time for plowing.
On March 25 in the morning, the foundation-stone laying ceremony for the Grassland Livestock Breed Innovation and Breeding Base of IMU and for the key projects of Hohhot of 2022 is held in Horinger, which marks the full beginning of the construction of supporting facilities of the scientific research projects in major realms of IMU in the 14th Five-Year Plan.
Present at the ceremony are Wu Limin, Executive Vice President and Vice Secretary of the CPC Committee of IMU, Gao Guanglai, Vice President of IMU, Zhu Jianguo, member of the Party Group of the Municipal Government, Vice Secretary of the Party Working Group and Director of the Board of Management of Horinger New District, Xu Yanguo, Vice Director of the Board of Management of the New District, Yang Urt, Director of the Bureau of Science and Technology of Hohhot, Hu Wei, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Regulation & Breeding of Grassland Livestock of IMU, Wang Fuzhen, Director of the Technology Transfer Center of IMU and other leaders and heads of the construction companies.
The ceremony
In his speech, Zhu Jianguo, member of the Party Group of the Municipal Government, Vice Secretary of the Party Working Group and Director of the Board of Management of Horinger New District, remarks that the project of Grassland Livestock Breed Innovation and Breeding Base of IMU is a key project in promoting the construction of scientific innovation center for talents in Horinger. Upon completion, the project will play its role as a state-level key laboratory, solve the bottleneck problem of high-quality breeds in China’s animal husbandry, and work its way to the leading position of the world’s modern biological breeding innovation in grassland livestock. Zhu Jianguo states that the project is the lifeline of the high-quality development of Horinger New District, and the Board of the New District will commit itself resiliently to working for the project, provide all necessary supports to the project, mobilize all resources to promote the project, introduce all necessary measures to serve the project so as to ensure-high quality development with high-quality projects.
Approved for construction in August 2020 with the energetic support of the leaders and relevant departments of the Autonomous Region and Hohhot, the project of Grassland Livestock Breed Innovation and Breeding Base is located in Horinger New District covering an area of 899 mu. Preparatory works including overall designing and bid invitation for the construction were completed in 2021. The Phase 1 of the project commenced this time with an investment of RMB96 million involves the facilities for standardized rearing of cattle and sheep, the phenotype comprehensive experimental ground and the genetic breeding research center and its supporting facilities covering 5,000 m², which are scheduled to be completed and put into trial operation in September 2022. Phase 2 of the project, which involves an investment of RMB192 million and covers an area of 22,000 m² of research facilities, was approved by the Development and Reform Commission of the Autonomous Region in November 2021. By 2023, the base will be developed into the sole experimental facilities for large grassland livestock in China consisting of scientific research and phenotype laboratories of 29,000 m² and cattle and sheep raising facilities of more than 43,000 m².
