On the afternoon of July 18, 2022, IMU held a video conference with Otto von Guericke University(OVGU) Magdeburg of Germany on furthering cooperation and exchange between two sides.
Present at the conference were Jens Strackeljan, president of OVGU, Helmut Weiß, vice president of OVGU, Jubran Rajub, head of the OVGU International Office and director of Language Center of OVGU, Robin Enke, contact person of OVGU international programs and He Linfu, Li Xiaolong and Erdenhu from the OVGU RepresentativeOffice in China. Also present were Wu limin, executive vice president of IMU, Erhimbayar, vice president of IMU, Duan Manfu, deputy director of IMU Division of International Cooperation &Exchange(DICE), Weng Zhi, deputy dean of the School of Electronic Information Engineering, Zhao Junfeng, deputy dean of the College of Computer Science, Li Guodong, deputy dean of the Transportation Institute, Hou Jianyun, chairman of the Finance Department of the School of Economics and Management, Xu Xiaoxiao, head of the Outbound Affairs Section of DICE and Wu Xiaodan of International Cooperation and Exchange Section of DICE.


Conference
Wu Limin delivered a welcome address. He introduced IMU's history, advantages of its location, its disciplines and majors, scientific research, building of its first-class disciplines and scientific innovations. He pointed out that IMU would carry out the strategy to further accelerate and widen the opening of its education to the outside world and implement across-the-board, multi-level and wide international cooperation and exchanges. Wu affirmed what two universities has achieved in their cooperation. He hoped to further mutual credit accredition, double major program, cooperation in education, exchanges in humanities and scientific research cooperation.
In his address, Strakeljan introduced Magdeburg's history, development and the important figures. He also gave a detailed introduction to the history of OVGU, the origin of the name of the university, majors of the university, the important research fields, its international students, budget of the university and jointcultivation of talents by the university and enterprises. He said that like IMU, OVGU is also the only university in the state where it is located which is scientific-research-centered and two universities are also similar in such aspects as the time they were established and the size. Strakelja said that OVGU would like to offer the opportunities to the students of different majors of IMU to study as an undergraduate and postgraduate at OVGU. He agreed to the cooperation put forward by IMU in such aspects as furthering the present double major program, applying for cooperative education program, mutual visits by teachers from IMU and OVGU and short-term student exchange program. He said that OVGU would carry forward the ensuing cooperation between two universities.
Duan Manfu talked about the ensuing cooperation between IMU and OVGU like the expansion of the present program of “2+2/3+1” and “4+0”, launching of joint education program among some majors, exchanges among teachers from two universities and short-term program for research and studies. He also talked about how to push forward and learn from the better ways of other Chinese universities to cooperate with foreign universities.
Under the normal of the prevention and control of COVID-19, the meeting will further push forward the cooperation and exchanges between IMU and OVGU in such fields as humanities, scientific research, teaching cooperation and exchanges of teachers and students of two universities.

In January and April, IMU and OVGU signed respectively the memorandum of cooperation and student exchange agreement and carried out diversified publicity activities. At present 9 students from IMU have passed the selective exams of OVGU and have been admitted to OVGU.
The full German name of OVGU is Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg. As a famous public research-centered university of Germany, it is located in the city of Magdeburg, capital city of Sachsen Anhalt State, Germany. OVGU was established in 1953 and named Technical University of Applied Sciences of Magdeburg. In 1987, it was renamed Technical University of Magdeburg. In 1993, Technical University of Magdeburg, Teacher Training College of Magdeburg and Academy of Medicine of Magdeburg were amalgamated as one university. In honor of Otto von Guericke, a famous German physicist, father of the experiment of Magdeburg Hemispheres and mayor of Magdeburg, the university was named Otto von Guericke University. The number of the students of OVGU totals 14000, 3569 of which are international students. Its faculty totals 2058, 198 of which are professors and 1024 of which are researchers. OVGU has 9 faculties including Faculty of Mechanical Engineering,Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of Mathematics, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education, Faculty of Economics and Management. In total, it has 117 courses for undergraduates and postgraduates.
