The launch ceremony for a training center for medical social workers was held in Hohhot, capital of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Sept 10.

The training center was co-constructed by Inner Mongolia University (IMU) and the Inner Mongolia People’s Hospital to cultivate more medical social workers and promote related volunteer activities.

At the launch ceremony, Sun Dejun, director of Inner Mongolia People's Hospital, said that medical social work is essential for maintaining the health of the population.

He added that social work plays an important role in creating a humane environment in hospitals. The new training center takes advantage of both university and hospital resources to build a harmonious relationship between doctors and patients, which is expected to have far-reaching impact on the overall quality of medical services.

Zhang Jiwei, vice president of IMU, said that the training center will help accelerate reform at public hospitals and strengthen cooperation between universities and hospitals. In the future, the two sides plan to carry out cooperation in scientific research, teaching, personnel training, and volunteer service.
