IMU hosts the council meeting of Confucius Institute of IMU and the Kalmyk State University

On the morning of December 11, 2023, Badma Salaev, president of the Kalmyk State University(KSU), Kermen Badmaeva, vice president of KSU, Vladmir Imeev, advisor of the president of KSU, Zayana Adyaeva, Russian director of Confucius Institute and Zhao Yong, Chinese director of the institute, visited IMU and attended the council meeting of Confucius Institute of IMU and KSU.

The attendees from IMU included Wu Limin, president of IMU, Dabhurbayar, vice president of IMU, Ren Ligang, dean of the International College of Education of IMU, Li Manliang, dean of the Foreign Languages College of IMU, Prof. Li Lingjun with the Foreign Languages College of IMU, Associate Prof. Lang Tongtong with the Foreign Languages College of IMU who acted as interpreter of the meeting, Mi Yanqing, dean the College of Liberal Arts and Journalism of IMU, Wu Yingzhe, dean of the School of Mongolian Studies of IMU, Bayanmend, director of the Center for Studies of Mongolia, Zhou Yu, deputy dean of the School of Economics and Management of IMU, Duan Manfu, deputy director of the Division of International Cooperation and Exchange of IMU, Sun Guiling, deputy director of  the Division of International Cooperation and Exchange of IMU, Hongmei, section head of the Division of International Cooperation and Exchange of IMU and Li Na, staff member of the Division of International Cooperation and Exchange of IMU. Wu Limin expressed, in his address, his warm welcome to the delegation led by Badma Salaev, president of KSU, and congratulated on the success of the meeting. He said that IMU has attached great importance to the work of Confucius Institute, made the Regulations of IMU on Management of Confucius Institute, overcome the difficulties and made concerted efforts to carry out activities online and offline. Wu pointed out that Confucius Institute has been run steadily; its work has been carried out in an orderly way and a lot has been done in the enrollment of students for Chinese training class, training of local teachers of Chinese, expansion of teaching schools and online HSK exams. Wu Limin also said that in the new era, based on the Suggestions of the Ministry of Education and Other Seven Ministries on Speeding Up and Expanding the Opening of Education to the Outside World in the New Era, IMU will adapt itself to the new situations, meet the new demands, deepen its international cooperation on education, put into effect the system of the mutual recognition of credits, mutual conferment and co-conferment of degrees with foreign universities and expand the influence of its online courses. Wu Limin said that IMU and KSU have conducted friendly exchanges for a long time and Confucius Institute and the Center for Russian Language and Culture have formed a good platform for further cooperation and exchange between two universities. Wu sincerely hoped that with Confucius Institute IMU and KSU will, in the near future, carry out broad, practical, across-the-board and multi-layer exchanges and cooperation to make greater contributions to boosting the exchange and learning between Chinese civilization and Russian civilization and reinforce the cooperation and friendship between IMU and KSU.

Badma Salaev, president of KSU, expressed, in his address, his thankfulness to IMU for its programs of effective cooperation with KSU. He mentioned that during the cooperation two universities carried out a lot of activities, which have promoted the understanding of each other’s history, culture and traditions by the people from China and Russia. Salaev said that the year of 2023 is the 20th anniversary of the signing of cooperation agreement between IMU and KSU and the foundation of the cooperation of two universities has been consolidated, which has paved the way for deepening the collaboration between IMU and KSU. He hoped that there would be deeper cooperation and exchange between two universities in scientific research and teaching. Badma Salaev also put forward his valuable suggestions on long-term and short-term internship and academic visit of teachers and students between two universities, establishment of online training mechanism, dispatch of Chinese and Russian teachers to each other, cooperative education, collaborative interdisciplinary research projects and establishment of the Research Office of Chinese Language and Culture at KSU.

Dabhurbayar, vice president of IMU, made arrangements for the work of the institute in the future. He pointed out that Confucius Institute at KSU is the only Confucius Institute that IMU has and one of the first batch Confucius Institutes established in the Southern District of Russia. He said that the year of 2023 is the 20th anniversary of the signing of cooperation agreement by IMU and KSU. In the past 20 years, Dabhurbayar pointed out, with the concerted efforts of both sides and Confucius Institute as the bridge and bond, two universities have carried out a large number of activities and programs, conducted effective cooperation and promoted the understanding of the history, culture and traditions of China and Russia by the people from two countries. Dabhuarbayar said that the council meeting is a good opportunity for both IMU and KSU to further discuss how Confucius Institute should develop and to deepen the cooperation of two universities, for which both universities have made full preparations. He said that both sides have made a good plan to deepen the cooperation, had strong will to cooperate and taken a big step forward. He hoped that the deans present at the meeting, according to the differences in the importance of the cooperations, took the corresponding measures to promote the cooperations concerned at different levels phase by phase, put into practice the programs concerned, put the cooperation work concerned on their daily agenda and designated specially-assigned persons to focus on the cooperation work persistently. He hoped that there would be new developments in cooperation when the next meeting took place next year.

The attendees from the colleges of IMU had discussions about the suggestions given by Badma Salaev, president of KSU and conducted in-depth exchanges with those from KSU and reached consensus on some specific cooperations.

Before the meeting, Badma Salaev and his colleagues had discussions and exchange with teachers and students from the Foreign Languages College, College of Liberal Arts and Journalism, School of Mongolian Studies and International College of Education. Both sides discussed the future cooperations in the exploration of education models for joint cultivation of students like models of “2+2” and “3+1”, the short-term exchange of teachers and students and joint education. Badma Salaev and his colleagues also met with the exchange students from KSU.
