Secretary Liu Zhiyu introduced the construction and development of our school in his speech. He stated that Inner Mongolia University has always attached great importance to serving economic and social development. "Where Has Time Gone? External Shocks and Changes in Time Use in China" relies on the platform of the "China University Data Alliance" led by the "China Household Finance Survey and Research Center" of Southwest University of Finance and Economics. Through conducting a nationwide tracking survey on time use among urban and rural residents in China, the monograph was based on the data from the 2017 and 2021 China Time Use Surveys. In the future, we hope that the team can make good use of these platforms and resources to achieve more valuable, forward-looking, and leading results.
Editor Yang Zhiyong introduced the basic situation of China Social Sciences Press in his speech. He said that "Where Has Time Gone? External Shocks and Changes in Time Use in China" can accurately reveal the efforts and constraints that families and individuals have made and suffered for their lives through the study of time use, providing a basis for formulating correct and effective public policies. Therefore, it is a very meaningful work, and he expressed that he will definitely do a good job in promoting this book. He also hopes to further strengthen cooperation with our school.
Professor Du Fenglian, the main author of the monograph, Vice President of our university, and Director of the Time Use Survey and Research Center, introduced the research background and current progress of the book. She said that Inner Mongolia University conducted two rounds of China Time Use Surveys (CTUS) in 2017 and 2021 in 29 provinces in China except Xinjiang, Xizang, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. By comparing with relevant surveys in 19 major countries, it was found that the survey quality of CTUS is generally in a leading position. Based on the data obtained from these two rounds of surveys, a systematic analysis was conducted on the time utilization status and changes of Chinese residents. It was found that in recent years, the welfare level of residents has significantly improved, which is reflected in the improvement of experience utility, comprehensive happiness index of urban residents, and the improvement of leisure and social quality. Compared with other countries, Chinese residents spend more time on paid labor, and it is gratifying that the problem of overtime work has eased in recent years. In recent years, the difference in paid and unpaid labor time between spouses has significantly narrowed; The higher the education level of the wife, the more the husband is involved in child care. In addition, the phenomenon of "retirement without rest" among the elderly and insufficient sleep among primary and secondary school students were also analyzed. Finally, prospects for future research are proposed.
In the seminar, Professor Li Shi, Dean of the Institute of Sharing and Development of Zhejiang University, Professor Gan Li, Director of the China Family Finance Research and Research Center, Professor Zhao Zhong, Dean of the School of Labor and Personnel of Renmin University of China, Professor Gao Wenwen, Vice President of the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Professor Yin Zhichao, Vice President of the Capital University of Economics and Business, respectively made exchange speeches on the topics of "Excessive Labor and Wage Growth and Wage Gap", "Working Hours, Human Capital Investment and Consumption", "Culture and Time Use", "Working Hours, Working Hours System and Total Labor Supply", and "Where Has Time Gone? - External Impact and Change in China's Time Use".
