In order to accelerate the construction and upgrading of first-class disciplines in biology, our university held a meeting on the afternoon of June 18th at the Yuquan campus to promote the construction of first-class disciplines in biology. President Wu Limin attended the meeting, and the main responsible persons of functional departments such as the Development Planning Department, Academic Affairs Department, Graduate School, Science and Technology Department, Personnel Department, Talent Work Office, Finance Department, Asset Management Department, Audit Department, Logistics Support Department, and members of the leadership team of the School of Life Sciences attended the meeting.
At the meeting, members of the leadership team of the School of Life Sciences gave detailed reports on the restructuring of national key laboratories, national talent attraction and education, doctoral enrollment, cultivation of top-notch innovative talents, the 2.0 base of the biological science top-notch student training plan, grassland livestock germplasm innovation and breeding base, and the construction of biomedical research institutes. They also had in-depth exchanges with the heads of various functional departments on the difficulties and problems encountered by the school's current development.
President Wu Limin listened carefully to the reports of the attendees, highly affirmed the achievements of the School of Life Sciences in the "Double First Class" construction, analyzed the development situation of the first-class discipline of biology, and responded to the questions raised by the school one by one. President Wu pointed out that although the "double first-class" discipline of biology has passed the reevaluation organized by the Ministry of Education, it must be taken seriously. A new round of evaluation cycle is also coming. We should plan as soon as possible from the following aspects: First, we should accelerate the optimization and restructuring of the State Key Laboratory for reproductive regulation and breeding of grassland livestock jointly built by provinces and ministries, and strive to create a key instruments for discipline development; The second is to target and increase the introduction and cultivation of national level leading talents and young talents, providing preferential support in terms of salary and benefits, doctoral enrollment quotas, and professional title evaluation and appointment; The third is to strengthen the utilization of achievements and produce significant results that serve the country and autonomous regions; Fourthly, we encourage cooperation with renowned research institutes outside the region, and cultivate more high-quality talents with international perspectives and innovative spirit through joint training, commissioned training, and other methods; The fifth is to accelerate the construction of grassland livestock germplasm innovation and breeding bases, as well as research buildings for biomedical research institutes, with scientific planning and reasonable layout to ensure that they are put into use as soon as possible.
Attendees pointed out that the School of Life Sciences should effectively fulfill its main responsibility for building a first-class discipline in biology, further refine the characteristics and directions of the discipline, increase efforts to attract and cultivate national level talents, enhance the internal governance capacity of the school, and promote the high-quality development of the first-class discipline in biology with a sense of responsibility that cannot be slack at all times and should be adequately prepared and confident in everything. All relevant functional departments should use their brains, emancipate their minds, strengthen communication, and break free from all constraints. Problems that can be solved must be solved as soon as possible, and those that cannot be solved immediately must be explained and reported to school leaders for research, in order to effectively provide various service guarantees.
