The 3rd edition of Flora Intramongolica whose editors-in-chief are the professors from Inner Mongolia University, wins Nomination Award of the 8th Book Awards for China’s Excellent Publications

Recently, the Publishers Association of China announced the Award Evaluation Results of the 8th Book Awards for China’s Excellent Publications. The 3rd edition of Flora Intramongolica, whose editors-in-chief are Zhao Yizhi, Cao Rui and Zhao Liqing, 3 professors of Inner Mongolia University, won the Nomination Award, the only book in Inner Mongolia which won the award.

                                             

The 3rd edition of Floral Intramongolica include 6 volumes which record wild vascular plants in Inner Mongolia and whose editors-in-chief are Zhao Yizhi, Cao Rui and Zhao Liqing, 3 professors of Inner Mongolia University. The volumes are compiled with the wisdom of the experts and scholars of the research institutions, colleges and universities from Inner Mongolia and include the wild vascular plants of 144 families, 737 genera and 2619 species and cultivated plants of 1 family, 63 genera and 178 species. In the books, the description of every species includes its Chinese name, alias, Latin name, main literature quotations, property description, life form, water ecological groups, habitat, type of community members of the key species and their community roles, place of origin, distribution, distribution type of floristic geography, economic purpose, colorful pictures and black and white chart, description of characteristics of families and genera and identification key.

Floral Intramongolica has three editions. Compared with the 1st and 2nd editions, the 3rd edition confirms wild vascular plants of 11 families, adds vascular plants of one newly recorded family, 53 genera, 320 species and the edition also merges 3 genera and 141 species. Moreover, newly added in the 3rd edition are 1 new tribe, 2 new genera, 3 new subgenera, 2 new sections, 43 new species, 20 new combinations, 7 new varieties and 6 combination varieties, which are discovered after the 2nd edition was published. And the 3rd edition adds nearly 4000 colored pictures for the species in the edition and supplements and replaces nearly 500 black and white charts which increase to 2800 in the edition.

The scholars have fully acknowledged the value of the publication of the edition. They include Hong Deyuan, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) and honorary president of Botanical Society of China, Ma Jinshuang, chief scientist with Beijing Botanical Garden, Prof. Liu Zhongling with Inner Mongolia University, Zhang Xianchun, research fellow with Institute of Botany, CAS, and curator of the National Herbarium of China, Prof. Rao Guangyuan with Peking University, Prof. Liu Quanru with Beijing Normal University, Research Fellow Zhang Shouzhou with Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden, CAS, Research Fellow Wu Yuhu with Northwest Institute of Plateau Biology, CAS and Research Fellow Pan Borong with Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, CAS. They unanimously agree that the 3rd edition of Floral Intramongolica is a high-level local floral book which is scientifically important for the further study of flora, plant classification and plant geography in Inner Mongolia, even Mongolia Plateau, and provides reliable basic scientific materials for scientific studies, teaching, production and management departments.

Now, the 3rd edition of Floral Intramongolica is widely used in Inner Mongolia in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, grassland, traditional Chinese medicine(Mongolian medicine), natural reserve, landscaping, colleges and scientific popularization. It has become a very important practical reference book.
