To completely carry out and put into practice the essence of the instructions of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), about the development of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region(IMAR) and live up to his high expectations he had for IMU while he inspected the university, further the “Double First-Class Initiative”(an initiative to build wold-class universities and disciplines by China) at this higher learning institution and its co-construction by both the Ministry of Education of China (MEC) and IMAR and bring into being a new strategy for attracting talents---“One Center and Multiple Points”, that is, to attract talents mainly from Beijing and also from other important cities and regions of China, the Organization Department of the IMAR CPC Committee, the IMAR CPC Committee on the Higher Learning Institutions Work and the Education Department of IMAR invited Zhao Dongyuan, member of the CPC Standing Committee of Fudan University, director of the United Front Work Department of the Fudan University CPC Committee, director of the Fudan University Academic Committee and director of Fudan University Laboratory for Advanced Materials to conduct academic exchange and inspection here at IMU from July 19 to July 20. The leaders from above-mentioned departments and committee of IMAR, Zhu Bingwen, CPC secretary of IMU, Chen Guoqing, deputy CPC secretary and president of IMU and those in charge of the offices and departments of IMU got involved in the exchange and inspection.
In the afternoon of July 19, Zhao Dongyuan visited IMU History Museum. There, he got a thorough knowledge of the history of IMU’s construction and development and its achievements made and had an all-round and thorough discussion with the leaders from IMU about furthering the university’s “Double First-Class Initiative” and its construction by both MEC and IMAR. Then, he paid a visit to the construction site of Laboratory Building A which will be used as a teaching and researching basis for this university’s College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and School of Ecology and Environment. In the afternoon, he also visited and inspected the State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Regulation and Breeding of Grassland Livestock which is funded by MEC and IMAR, and listened to the laboratory’s introduction to its recent research direction, the progress of its research projects and its future research plans.

In the morning of July 20, Zhao Dongyuan gave an academic report titled Oriented Assembly and Application of Functional Mesoporous Materials on Interface. The report was conducted at the major venue at IMU and also live streamed. The leaders from the Organization Department of IMAR CPC Committee, the IMAR CPC Committee on the Higher Learning Institutions Work, the Education Department of IMAR and IMU, and teachers and students from some schools of IMU, listened to the report at the main venue. The leaders of other universities and colleges in IMAR, heads of the departments and schools concerned and teacher and student representatives from these universities and colleges listened to the report at 23 sub--venues via live streaming. The audiences amounted to over 1000. Hou Yuan, secretary of IMAR CPC Committee on the Higher Learning Institutions Work, secretary of the CPC Group of IMAR Department of Education and director-general of IMAR Department of Education, presided of the event.

Report Venue
While giving the report, Zhao Dongyuan introduced, in easy-to-understand language, the basic properties of the functional mesoporous materials, progress and strategies for the research on the the oriented-assembly-on-interface-based synthesis of the hierarchical-structure functional mesoporous materials and the future application of functional mesoporous materials in such areas as catalysis, absorption, separation, photoelectric conversion and storage and bio-medicines. Zhao’s academic report is rich in content and humorous in language. This report provided college teachers and students present at report venues a good opportunity for academic exchange. During the interaction, Zhao patiently answered the questions raised by the teachers and students present at the major venue.

Hou Yuan, director-general of the IMAR Department of Education, pointed out in his comments on the report that Zhao’s precise knowledge of the latest scientific development, his thorough understanding of scientific philosophy and his inquiring spirit impressed all the audiences deeply and his report made the college teachers in Inner Mongolia who are engaged in the teaching and research in similar fields gain and enlightened a lot and is sure to play a positive role in boosting further development of the disciplines concerned. Hou also said that the IMAR CPC Committee has made the important decision to “Develop Inner Mongolia via Science and Technology ” and it is a vital support to form a “One Center and Multiple Points” talent attraction strategy. And Hou hoped that all colleges and universities in Inner Mongolia seriously study the decision and the strategy and further strengthen their ability in serving the social and economic development in the region and make more contributions to the construction of prosperous and beautiful Inner Mongolia and fulfillment of the Chinese Dream.
After the report, Zhao paid a visit to the Exhibition Room for Ancient Mongolian Books at IMU Library.

Zhao Dongyuan is a member of the CPC Standing Committee of Fudan University, director of the United Front Work Department of the Fudan University CPC Committee, director of the Fudan University Academic Committee and director of Fudan University Laboratory for Advanced Materials. In 2000, he was selected as a distinguished professor with Chang Jiang Scholars Program of the MEC. In 2006, he was selected as a state-level talent with the “Talent Project for the New Century”. In 2007, Zhao was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and in 2010 a fellow of the Third World Academy of Sciences--now the World Academy of Sciences. Zhao mainly engages in the research on mesoporous material’s synthesis, structure, mechanism and catalysis. He has developed many new strategies to synthesize mesoporous materials, invented a series of ordered mesoporous oxide materials with thermal stability and large pore size, mesoporous polymer and carbon materials. He has unique perspectives in such areas as mesoporous molecular sieve’s structure, appearance control and multi-dimensional assembly mechanism and has made great contributions to the development and application of mesoporous materials. Zhao has published 650 SCI(Science Citation Index)articles in the academic journals like Nature and Science and his articles have been quoted 110,000 times. Zhao has won the second-class prize of the National Natural Sciences Award, the first-class prize for natural sciences awarded by MEC and the lifetime award of IMMA (International Mesostructured Materials Association), prizes awarded by the World Academy of Sciences and other prizes awarded at home and abroad. Moreover, Zhao is chairman of IMMA, member of the Council of International Zeolite Association and member of the editorial boards of over ten important international academic journals.
