IMU holds review meeting on PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) undergraduate talent training program

The application jointly submitted by the School of Philosophy, the School of Economics and Management and the School of Public Administration of IMU in 2019 to set up the specialty of PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) for further opening up a path of the construction of new liberal arts, promoting cross-disciplinary construction and meeting the needs for training well-rounded innovative talents has recently been granted approval. To conduct the training of professional talents successfully and in a standardized manner, IMU held the online/offline meeting for sharing experiences in PPE of renowned universities in China and for reviewing IMUs PPE undergraduate talent training program at Room 806 of the Zhuoyue Building of the South Campus on July 30. Present at the meeting were Prof. Zhang Jiwei, vice president of IMU, Prof. Guo Xi, director of the Academic Administration Office, Prof. Xu Jin, vice director of the Academic Administration Office, experts invited from other universities including Prof. Li Meng, dean of the Yuanpei College of Peking University, Prof. Zang Fengyu, dean of the School of Philosophy and director of the PPE Board of Renmin University of China, Prof. Luo Songtao, deputy dean of the School of Philosophy of Beijing Normal University, experts from IMU including Prof. Du Fenglian, dean of the School of Economics and Management, Prof. Liu Yinxi, dean of the School of Public Administration, Prof. Cao Shuqin, deputy dean of the School of Public Administration, Prof. Jing Jianfeng, dean and secretary of the CPC Branch Committee of the School of Philosophy, Prof. Wang Jinzhu, deputy dean of the School of Philosophy and some of the faculty members and personnel from the Section of Education Reform of the Academic Administration Office and the schools concerned.

The opening ceremony of the meeting was presided over by Prof. Jing Jianfeng, dean and secretary of the CPC Branch Committee of the School of Philosophy of IMU. In his opening speech, Prof. Zhang Jiwei, vice president of IMU, expressed warm welcome and sincere thanks to Prof. Li Meng, dean of the Yuanpei College of Peking University, Prof. Zang Fengyu, dean of the School of Philosophy of Renmin University of China and Prof. Luo Songtao, deputy dean of the School of Philosophy of Beijing Normal University, presented IMUs exploration and achievements in cross-disciplinary schooling and training high-level well-rounded undergraduate talents with the encouragement and support of the Ministry of Education and the autonomous region, and expounded on the background and prospects of PPE. Prof. Zhang remarked that he hoped that PPE could be a pilot for exploring the schooling path of more cross-disciplinary compound specialties. Prof. Guo Xi, director of the Academic Administration Office, Prof. Du Fenglian, dean of the School of Economics and Management and Prof. Liu Yinxi, dean of the School of Public Administration also delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony was followed by the second item of the meeting for sharing experiences of PPE of renowned universities in China, at which Prof. Li Meng, dean of the Yuanpei College of Peking University, Prof. Zang Fengyu, dean of the School of Philosophy and director of the PPE Board of Renmin University of China, Prof. Luo Songtao, deputy dean of the School of Philosophy of Beijing Normal University gave introductions separately to the talent training programs of PPE in Peking University, Renmin University of China and Beijing Normal University, including their objectives of talent training, credit system and course designed and their respective advantages, features, experiences and problems they encountered.

The undergraduate talent training program of PPE of IMU was reviewed at the meeting presided over by Prof. Li Meng of the Yuanpei College of Peking University. Dr. Pan Zhaoyun, head of the Department of PPE of the School of Philosophy, gave a detailed report on IMUs PPE training program, including the objectives of talent training, specifications of talent training, course system, professional basic courses, professional core courses and professional orientation course as well as the distribution of credits among the terms in the training program. The reviewing board consisting of Prof. Zhang Jiwei, Prof. Zang Fengyu, Prof. Luo Songtao, Prof. Xu Jin and Prof. Li Meng reviewed the training program, proposed valuable suggestions and advice and decided after discussion that IMUs PPE training program is reasonable in its objectives, scientific in its course system designing, which would ensure the achievement of the intended objectives of talent training. Representatives of the School of Public Administration, the School of Economics and Management and the School of Philosophy of IMU remarked that they would jointly make efforts in further optimizing and adjusting IMUs PPE talent training program on the basis of the suggestions of the experts to achieve the IMUs objectives of PPE talent training.
