On August 18, the Board of the National Natural Science Foundation of China announced the result of the appraisal of the projects submitted for the sponsorship of the Foundation in 2021, according to which 71 of the 288 projects submitted by IMU were granted sponsorship with the direct total amount of RMB24.29 million, representing an average sponsorship rate of 24.7%, slightly higher than the previous year, ranking continuously the first place in Inner Mongolia with over 70 projects approved for the fourth consecutive year. Of the total, 56 are regional science foundation projects, with a sponsorship rate of 29.8%, 3% higher than the previous year, maintaining a fairly high rate covered by sponsorship.
276,715 project applications were submitted to the Board of the National Natural Science Foundation of China during the prescribed period of submission in 2021, of which 274,982 were accepted for further handling after preliminary examinations and re-examinations. Except the projects being examined or in the process of approval, presently there are a total of 45,681 projects supported by various types of sponsorship, with an overall sponsorship rate of 16.8% only.
As one of the main channels of IMU to obtain national scientific and technological allocations, the National Natural Science Foundation of China has always played a powerful role of support for IMU’s construction of Double First Class, and has been essential and irreplaceable in incessantly upgrading IMU’s basic research level and original creativity and promoting the steady development of disciplines and cultivation of major achievements. In the future IMU will continue to fully implement the spirits of the Notice of the Board of the National Natural Science Foundation of China on Conscientious Performance of Subject Duties by Supporting Organizations, plan elaborately, make overall arrangements and commit itself to supporting and serving project applications. The IMU management wishes that all the secondary units concerned make full use of the opportunity of the 14th Five-Year Plan, focus on the major needs of the country and the autonomous region in the development of science and technology, fully mobilize the enthusiasm and initiative of researchers, keep improving the crystallization and verification of scientific issues, and strive to make greater achievements in project application in the year to come.
