Recently, the Ministry of Education has announced the list of the candidates for building the national and provincial first-class undergraduate programs in 2021. 17 undergraduate programs of IMU have been accredited as the candidates for building the national first-class undergraduate programs. Now IMU has 33 undergraduate programs accredited as the candidates for building the national first-class undergraduate programs and 23 for building the provincial first-class undergraduate programs.

The Ministry of Education has launched the “Double-10,000 Plan”(the plan to build 10,000 national first-class undergraduate programs and 10,000 provincial first-class undergraduate programs) for building first-class undergraduate programs in order to fully put into practice the spirit of the National Conference on Education in September, 2018 and that of The Implementation Plan to Accelerate the Education Modernization(2018-2022), completely implement the requirements of the National Conference on Undergraduate Education for a New Era and those of such documents as The Advice of the Ministry of Education on the Acceleration of Building High-Level Undergraduate Education and the Comprehensive Improvement of the Ability to Cultivate Talents, The Plan of Six Excellents and One Top-Notch 2.0(i.e to cultivate excellent engineers, excellent doctors, excellent talents in agriculture and forestry, excellent teachers, excellent talents in law and excellent talents in journalism and communication and top-notch talents in basic disciplines), consolidate first-class undergraduate education and build first-class undergraduate programs, cultivate first-class talents and fully revitalize the undergraduate education. Through the online application by universities and colleges, evaluation of the departments in charge of universities and colleges and appraisal, voting and recommendation of the Teaching Steering Committee for the Institutions of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, 3730 undergraduate programs are accredited as the candidates for building the national first-class undergraduate programs. Meanwhile, with the appraisal and recommendation of the provincial departments in charge of education, 5069 undergraduate programs are accredited as the candidates for building of the provincial first-class undergraduate programs.

In recent years, IMU has been sticking to the principle of “putting undergraduate education at the core ”, putting into practice “ Four Returns of College Education”(e.g. return to common sense of college education, return to duty of college education, return to original aspiration of college education and return to dream of the college education to serve the country), continuously perfecting the mechanism to carry out the fundamental task of cultivating talents with right values, paying full attention to the key point of improving the ability to cultivate talents, firmly establish the core position of cultivating talents and strengthening the core position of undergraduate education. Especially since President Xi Jinping inspected the university on July, 16, 2019, IMU has made The Action Plan to Further Study and Carry Out the Spirit of the Instructions Given by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of CPC Central Committee during His Inspection of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and to Build the First-Class Undergraduate Education with Unique Characteristics(2019-2020). It has been optimizing the structures of its disciplines and undergraduate programs, perfecting the interactive mechanism of its recruitment, cultivation and employment of undergraduates, advancing the reform of its innovative talent-cultivating pattern supported by “study+teaching+innovation practice and experience”, and continuously bettering the connotation and level of undergraduate programs to bring about the comprehensive improvement of the ability and quality for talent cultivation.
