The 6th National Conference on Developmental Biology held in Hohhot City

From July 14 to 16, 2023, the 6th National Conference on Developmental Biology was held in Hohhot City. The conference was co-hosted by Inner Mongolia University, Genetics Society of China, China Zoological Society and Chinese Society for Cell Biology and organized by the School of Life Sciences(SLS) of IMU and the State Key Laboratory of Genetic Engineering of Fudan University. The theme of the conference is “Development and Homeostasis”. Present at the conference were over 1000 attendees including Meng Anming, academician with Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), Yang Weicai, academician of the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology of CAS, Li Jingsong and Xu Guoliang, academicians with the Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science of CAS, Ji Weizhi, academician of CAS with  Kunming University of Science and Technology, Prof. Lin Xinhua with Fudan University, Huang Xun, research fellow with the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology of CAS, Prof. Yang Zhongzhou with Nanjing University. They got together to share and discuss the latest research results in developmental biology.

 

The opening ceremony of the conference was chaired by Prof. Hu Wei, dean of SLS. Meng Anming, chairman of the conference, introduced the developments in developmental biology in recent years and the last conference on developmental biology. He acknowledged the research results in the current developmental biology and encouraged the young scholars to continue to forge ahead in an innovative and enterprising way. Then, Zhang Junxi, member of the Education Work Committee of the CPC Committee of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region(IMAR), member of the CPC Committee of the Education Department of IMAR and deputy director-general of the Education Department of IMAR, addressed the conference. He expressed his welcome to the academicians, experts and scholars and other guests who are from faraway places. He underscored the policy of IMAR to “strengthen Inner Mongolia with science and technology ” and the determination to carry out it with the instructions of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and pointed out that opening up and cooperation have to be upheld and efforts should be made to try to attract and gather scientific and technological talents with inclusive mind to assist the high-quality development of Inner Mongolia. He encouraged the experts to conduct wider and deeper exchange and cooperation with Inner Mongolia and give IMAR more support and help in intellectual support and talent buildup. Wu Limin, president of IMU, introduced in his address the developments of IMU in recent years, expressed his thanks to the experts and scholars for their long-term care and support to IMU and welcome the experts and scholars to IMU for exchange and study or have a position at IMU.

Present at the conference were over 1200 experts, scholars, graduate students and developmental biology workers from over 360 institutions like Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University and CAS. The conference collected 120 abstracts and 102 wall newspapers. Altogether 134 academic reports were delivered at the conference. Of these reports were 9 keynote reports, 110 special reports for parallel sessions and 15 reports for the forum of the young. These reports concern early development and epigenetic regulation, embryo morphogenesis and organ development, stem cells and determination of the cell destiny, angiocarpy and hematopoiesis development, neurogenesis and diseases, genital system development and diseases, development and metabolism regulation, maintenance of tissue homeostasis and diseases, regeneration, repair and aging, parasite development and diseases and plant development and new technologies in developmental biology. The speakers included academicians, backbone experts and young talents who fully demonstrated the latest research results in developmental biology from different levels and perspectives. The reports were rich in contents and had created strong academic atmosphere.

Keynote speeches and exchange of wall papers

On the afternoon of July 16, the conference completed its agenda and held its closing ceremony which was chaired by Prof. Nasunbuh, deputy dean of SLS. At the closing ceremony, the awardee list for excellent wall newspapers was announced. Lv Tong, student from Tsinghua University, won the first prize. Gao Junjun, student from Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Nie Xiaoqing, student from the Institute of Zoology, CAS, won the second prize. Ji Shuyan, Cao Fangjie and Zhao Lianzheng who are from Tsinghua University, won the third prize. The experts conferred awards on the above-mentioned prize winners. At last, Meng Anming, academician of CAS, announced that the 7th National Conference on Developmental Biology would be held in Zhengzhou City in 2024 and this conference came to a successful close.
