On August 7, 2023, IMU held a grand conference for the establishment of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences & the 1st Inner Mongolia Forum on Biomedicine. Present at the conference were over 200 experts and scholars from such universities and hospitals in and outside Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region(IMAR) as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, China Medical University, Shanghai University and Shangdong Academy of Medical Sciences. The heads of the departments and schools of IMU concerned also attended the conference. The nameplate unveiling ceremony was chaired by Prof. Hu Wei, dean of the School of Life Sciences of IMU and executive dean of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of IMU.

Present at the conference were Jin Li, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), vice chairman of the 1st Advisory Council for Development Strategy of IMU, president of Fudan University and dean of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of IMU, Yang Jie, vice chairman of Inner Mongolia People’s Political Consultative Conference, secretary of the Committee on Education Work of IMAR CPC Committee, secretary of the CPC Group of the Education Department of IMAR and director-general of Education Department of IMAR, Xu Hongzhi, secretary of the Health Commission of IMAR CPC Committee, Zhang Wenhong, director of Infectious Disease Department of Huashan Hopital, Fudan University and who is listed under Changjiang Scholars Program, Wang Zhanguo, secretary of Inner Mongolia People’s Hospital CPC Committee, Lin Xinhua, dean of the School of Life Sciences of Fudan University, Wu Xi, president of Hinggan League People’s Hospital. Liu Zhiyu, secretary of IMU CPC Committee, attended the conference and unveiled the nameplate of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.

Jin Li, academician of CAS, addressed the conference on the establishment of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences. And he introduced and explained the core orientation and idea for the development of the institute. He hoped that the institute could stick to its differentiation development with unique characteristics to fully serve the strategies of “Health China” and “Health Inner Mongolia”.
Yang Jie said in her address that the Institute of Biomedical Sciences is the bridge and bond that connects IMU and hospitals in Inner Mongolia and conducive to “Health China” and “Health Inner Mongolia”. She expressed her great expectations for the development of the institute.
Liu Zhiyu said that IMU will spare no efforts to build the institute and strive to make new contributions to the building of biology as a first-class discipline.
After the nameplate-unveiling ceremony, the 1st Inner Mongolia Forum on Biomedicine was held. The forum was chaired by Prof. Liu Tiemin and Prof. Ni Ting, deputy deans of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
At the forum, the experts on basic research and clinical experts in such four key aspects of biomedicine as metabolism and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, development and reproductive health, immunity and infectious diseases and new technologies for biomedical diagnosis and treatment, conducted further discussions and exchanges in the fields they focus. They also gave their valuable opinions and advice on the high-quality development of the institute.
