On the morning of August 11, 2023, IMU held the launching ceremony for the survey of integration of languages and cultures of ethnic groups in north China in a new era. Present at the ceremony were Chogjin, director of the Research Center for Integration and Communication of Languages and Cultures of Ethnic Groups in IMAR(RCICLCEGI), Sun Xianzhong, Liu Yuejin, Zhong Jinwen, Xiao Fang and Aoqi who are members of the Academic Board of RCICLCEGI, Li Wenge, deputy secretary of Hulubuir University CPC Committee and president of Hulunbuir University(HU), Saijin, chairman of Hulunbuir Federation of Social Sciences, leaders of the Publicity Department of Hulunbuir City CPC Committee, Liu Zhiyu, secretary of IMU CPC Committee, Erhembayar, vice president of IMU and heads of the departments concerned of IMU. At the ceremony, Li Wenge, deputy secretary of HU CPC Committee and president of HU addressed the ceremony. He expressed his warm welcome to the experts and scholars present at the ceremony and introduced the development of HU. He hoped that with the ceremony HU would make concerted efforts with the experts from IMU to fulfill the “Five Tasks” assigned by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region(IMAR) and his request for IMAR to build itself into a model autonomous region, on the basis of long history and rich cultural resources of IMAR and with the fine traditions of the ethnic groups in China helping each other. HU would, Li said, provide consulting service and academically theoretical support for the cultural development in IMAR to write a new chapter of IMAR for Chinese modernization.

Saijin, chairman of Hulunbuir Federation of Social Sciences, addressed the ceremony. He expressed his congratulations on the launch of the survey and research of integration of languages and cultures of ethnic groups in north China in a new era. He introduced Hulunbuir’s history, geographical conditions and development. He hoped to establish closer ties with the experts and scholars present at the ceremony, carry out the pragmatic cooperation to improve the research of Hulunbuir and make social science contributions of Hulunbuir to Chinese modernization.

Liu Zhiyu said in his address that IMU, as the candidate university for the new round of building of “Double-First-Class Initiative” and the university co-supported by the Ministry of Education and IMAR government, had the duty and responsibility to take lead in making a good job of the higher education that lives up to the expectations of the people, serving the high-quality social and economic development of IMAR, carrying forward the excellent Chinese traditional culture and forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation. He pointed out that the survey that had gathered together the renowned scholars in philosophy and social sciences at home was a move of IMU to implement the important expositions of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee about philosophy and social sciences and his thought about improvement of work about ethnic affairs, which is of great significance for forwarding the integration, development, exchange and communication of languages and cultures in IMAR, forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation and further improving the comprehensive strength of IMU in humanities and social sciences. He hoped that with the survey IMU should give play to the functions of its scientific research and innovation platform, have an in-depth study of the connotation and nature of the cultures in IMAR and make the excellent cultures rooted in IMAR popular to inject strong spiritual power into fulfilling “Five Taks” and building a model autonomous region.

In his address, Chogjin introduced the purpose of RCICLCEGI to conduct the survey. He said that as the academic institution established in the new era, RCICLCEGI should serve the cultural causes of the country and autonomous region while serving the discipline group development of liberal arts of IMU. He hoped that the members of the academic board of the center could carry out in-depth survey and research on the basis of long history and rich cultural resources of IMAR and their academic advantages to provide valuable suggestions and plans for the launch of the research on the integration and communication of ethnic languages and cultures in IMAR, the subsequent discipline building, scientific research development, service of the region and inter-university cooperation and to make greater contributions to fulfilling the “Five Tasks” assigned by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and building of IMAR into a model autonomous region.

Chogjin, Sun Xianzhong, Liu Yuejin, Aoqi, Zhong Jinwen and Xiao Fang delivered the keynote speeches according to their own research field and research activities. Their speeches are titled  as “Promotion of the Research on the Integration of Languages and Cultures in Northern China”, “Correct Understanding of Civil Code and Full Implementation of Civil Code”, “Significance of the Research on Cultures in Northern China”, “Analysis of the Way of Mutual-Acceptance in the Inheritance of Intangible Heritage in IMAR”, “Cultural Integration and Literary Production-Reflections on the Ancient Literary Production of Ethnic Minorities” and “Exploration of the Tangible, Sensible and Effective Path for Forging a Strong Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation”.

Keynote speeches

On the afternoon,  the in-depth discussions and exchanges about economy, ecological protection and culture were carried out among the scholars and experts who are involved in the survey and heads of Hulunbuir Federation of Social Sciences, National Station for Field Scientific Observation and Research of Ecological System of Grassland, Hulunbuir Development and Reform Commission and Hulunbuir Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio and TV, Hulunbuir Bureau of Rural Revitalization, Hulunbuir Art Theater and Hulunbuir Ethnic Museum. Finally, they visited Hulunbuir Ethnic Museum.
