On November 15, 2023, Clarivate Analytics officially released the list of the world’s “highly cited researchers” in 2023, 6,849 scientists from over 1,300 institutions of 67 countries and regions are on the list. Prof. Liu Jian, dean of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering(CCCE) of IMU, has been on the list for interdisciplinary fields 6 times in a row.
The method to select the world’s highly cited researchers has been made by bibliometrics experts and data scientists of the Institute for Scientific Information of Clarivate Analytics on the basis of the citation data of Web of Science™ and the analysis of the data. Only 0.1% of the world’s scientific researchers can be listed among the “world’s highly cited researchers” of Clarivate Analytics and they are the most influential contributors in the expansion of the frontier of the knowledge of human beings, innovation and human advancement.
“The world’s highly cited researchers” of Clarivate Analytics are selected once every year. The citation frequency of the articles of “the world’s highly cited researchers” ranks top 1% in the same discipline and publication year in Web of Science. The world’s highly cited researchers in 2023 are selected on the basis of highly cited articles published from January 2012 to December 2022. Mainly based on the databases of InCites and ESI, the method for the selection is to select those highly cited researchers according to the number of their published academic articles and the scientific performance indicators and tendency data of the cited articles in Web of Science.
Prof. Liu Jian, dean of CCCE and a PhD student supervisor, is selected as a distinished professor with the Program for Key Talents of the Ministry of Education, included in the National Program for Introduction of Overseas High-Level Talents and ranks on the list of career-long-impact for the world’s top 2% scientists. Liu has long been focusing on the design and synthesis of nano porous materials and the basic applied research in the field of energy and catalysis. He has made a series of important original research achievements in the design and synthesis of catalytic nano functional materials and construction of nano reactors. As the first author and the corresponding author or co-corresponding author, Liu has published over 190 articles in such journals as Nature Mater., Nature Commun., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Mater., Natl. Sci. Rev., which have been cited by SCI over 24,000 times and whose H factor is 72. He has published 1 monograph. He has taken charge of or participated in key research projects supported by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Ministry of Science and Technology, the key project for the study and development of the key instrument supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and other projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. While advancing the high-level basic research, Prof. Liu Jian has also boosted the industrialized pilot-scale testing or transformation of his research achievements to put his research results into use and serve the country and repay the society.
