The “15th Higher Education Chess Invitational Tournament in Beijing”, initiated by the Beijing Student Union, organized by Beijing Zhiyou Culture Media Co., Ltd., and hosted by the Chess Association of the Minzu University of China, was held on May 18th, as scheduled. It aims to promote Chinese chess culture, spread the spirit of Chinese chess, provide a platform for students to explore chess skills, and strengthen the exchange and cooperation among universities.The School of Physical Education at IMU formed a representative team to participate and achieved good results.
A total of 32 representative teams competed in this fierce event. The team from our school participated, with Li Huimin, the head of the chess elective course group, serving as the coach. Li Guanqi, the master of National Chess Association (Master’s student in the School of Public Management) presided over one board, while Zhao Zhihui, the National Level 2 Athlete (undergraduate student in the School of Life Sciences), Han Jie (undergraduate student in the School of Transportation), and Level 1 Chess Player Zhu Chengyu (undergraduate student in the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering) played on boards two, three, and four respectively. After fierce competition, our school’s representative team achieved the 5th place in the team rankings, and our university was awarded the “Excellent Organization Award”. Zhu Chengyu was awarded the “Best Fourth Board” prize.
This tournament required the completion of seven rounds of matches in one day, making the entire competition orderly, tense, and intense, which tested the mental and physical strength of the players. Through this competition, the four students gained experience in national competitions again. They will summarize their experiences, address their shortcomings, improve their chess skills, and strive to achieve further success in future competitions!
