Associate Professor Gao Yongqiang with the College of Computer Science publishes his latest research results in the top journal in the field of services computing

Recently, Gao Yongqiang, associate professor with the College of Computer Science of IMU, has cooperated with the research team of Prof. Qi Zhengwei with the School of Software of Shanghai Jiaotong University to publish in IEEE Transactions on Services Computing IEEE TSCthe academic article titled “Energy-and Quality of Experience-Aware Dynamic Resource Allocation for Massively Multiplayer Online Games in Heterogeneous Cloud Computing Systems”. Gao is the first author and Inner Mongolia University is the institution that the first author of the article is with. IEEE Transactions on Services Computing is the top journal in services computing of IEEE and Class A journal recommended by CCF. (URL of the article: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/9829325)

Due to the problem of multi-dimensional resource allocation for massively multiplayer online games(MMOG) in heterogeneous cloud environment, the authors in this article propose a dynamic resource allocation scheme which makes use of both dynamic virtual machine (VM) consolidation and VM resizing. Taking into consideration the properties of the cloud gaming, heterogeneity of the operating platform of cloud gaming, quality of experience of cloud gaming and cost of energy, the authors of the article use in the scheme the LSTM network and VM resizing to dynamically adjust the resource allocation of VMs. They also use differential evolution and VM consolidation to dynamically adjust mapping relations between VMs and physical machines(PM) to minimize the cost of energy of cloud gaming when the requirements for the quality of experience of cloud gaming are met. The experiment results show that, compared to the traditional over-provisioning policy, this resource allocation scheme can achieve up to 44.8% energy savings while ensuring the quality of experience requirements of MMOG gamers.

Since graduating as a PhD from the Department of Computer Science and Technology of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Associate Professor Gao Yongqiang has continued his exploration and attempt in cloud computing and services computing and launched his innovative research in combination with artificial intelligence and edge computing. In recent years, he has published as the first author 2 high-quality articles on cloud computing respectively in such international top journals as IEEE Internet of Things Journal which is included in the first section of SCI journals and International Conference on Service Oriented Computing which is classified as Class B by CCF. This research is the continuation of two above-mentioned articles. The innovation of the his series of researches concerned is recognized by journals and reviewers of the journals.
