The first China, Mongolia, Russia International Symposium on Mongolian Studies was held at Inner Mongolia University’s cultural industrialization research center in Baarin Left Banner in Chifeng -- a city in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Oct 12-14 -- according to IMU officials.
The event was sponsored by IMU, the National University of Mongolia and the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Over 150 experts and scholars from teaching and research institutions attended the symposium. They came from as far afield as Mongolia, Russia, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea and Turkey.
Closer to home, Chinese teaching and research institutions were involved, including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Minzu University of China, Sun Yat-sen University and Northwest Minzu University.
The symposium was divided into four thematic groups: linguistics, literature and art, history and culture, news and communications. Participants discussed and exchanged ideas on the latest research results and papers related to different topics.
The leader of Baarin Left Banner told the symposium that the conference would raise the profile of IMU’s achievements and its influence on Mongolian studies. At the same time, he added, it would also play a role in promoting local economic and cultural developments.
Since 2015, IMU has cooperated with local government.
In so doing, it has established two comprehensive research centers -- integrating academic research, internships and training, entrepreneurship and employment, commercialization of research results, academic research achievement exchanges and other functions.
The research center was built as a platform for top brains to carry out creative research and development.
It was also built as a platform for experts and scholars to conduct research and learning, and for students' internship training. It has also successfully hosted a number of international academic conferences, effectively accelerating the development of the local economy and local culture.
