From July 28 to 31, 2023, the 17th National Conference on Solar Photochemistry and Photocatalysis(NCSPP) which was hosted by China Renewable Energy Society(CRES) and IMU and organized by Inner Mongolia University of Technology and Inner Mongolia Normal University, took place in Hohhot City. Present at the conference were Li Can, Zhao Dongyuan, Zhao Jincai, Zou Zhigang, Yang Jinlong and Sun Licheng who are academicians with Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), Fu Xianzhi, academician with Chinese Academy of Engineering(CAE), Gu Sai, fellow with Royal Academy of Engineering, Britain, Liang Yuan, secretary general of CRES, Li Ying, deputy director-general of the Education Department of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region(IMAR), Liu Zhiyu, secretary of IMU CPC Committee, Wu Limin, president of IMU, Zhang Jun, president of Inner Mongolia Normal University and over 1000 experts, scholars and young students from universities, academic institutions and industries at home. The opening ceremony was chaired by Research Fellow Liu Jian, chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference and dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering(SCCE) of IMU.

At the opening ceremony, Zou Zhigang, director of the Committee on Photochemistry of CRES, delivered his address in which he introduced the history of NCSPP and pointed out that the application of photocatalytic technologies and photocatalytic materials and improvement of the conversion rate of solar energy are the important aspects of study at present. He hoped that the scholars could focus on new energy, solar energy, hydrogen energy and made more academic achievements.

In his address, Wu Limin briefly introduced the history and development of IMU and said that NCSPP is a rare opportunity for exchange. He thanked the experts, scholars and institutions concerned for their support of IMU. He welcomed the attendees and guests present at the conference to continue to give their care and support to the development of IMU.
Liang Yuan, secretary general of CRES, addresses the conference.
Liang Yuan said that this NCSPP had the new pattern for demonstration of scientific and technological achievements, exchange and cooperation, which is conducive to the improvement of capability of research and development and the capability to serve the industries.
Li Ying, deputy director-general of the Education Department of IMAR, addresses the conference.
Li Ying addressed the conference on behalf of the Education Department of IMAR. He introduced the potentials and challenges IMAR has in safeguarding the national energy security, making the economic circle smooth and developing technologies in carbon peak and carbon neutral. He hoped that academicians and other experts present at the conference could give their valuable advice and suggestions to the high-quality development of IMAR, make the concerted efforts to carry out the scientific and technological research on innovation and put more research achievements into use to empower the development of IMAR.

The conference has received 674 abstracts, arranged 10 plenary lectures, 36 keynote speeches, 170 specially invited reports, 140 oral reports. 4 young scholars from different universities and research institutes won the title of “Young Scientists” and 10 students won the Award for Excellent Wall Papers. This conference has been well-received among the attendees and by the academic community and played an active role in accelerating IMU’s “Double-First-Class” construction and increasing the university’s cooperation and exchange with other institutions at home and abroad.
