A delegation of IMU led by Wu Limin, president of IMU, pays a visit to Germany and Belgium

From October 22 to 29, 2023, a delegation led by Wu Limin, president of IMU, visited Germany and Belgium to deepen IMU’s pragmatic cooperation with its partners. The delegation went to different cities in Germany and Belgium and successively visited Free University of Brussels in Belgium and University of Duisburg-Essen, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, GISMA University of Applied Sciences and Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences in Germany. They had in-depth discussions with above-mentioned universities on exchange of students, joint training of students, educational cooperation and cooperation on scientific research. The delegation members included Zhou Jiantao, director of the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs of IMU and dean of the College of Computer Science(College of Software) of IMU, Wang Shubin, dean of the School of Electronic Information Engineering of IMU, Zhou Yu, deputy dean of the School of Economics and Management of IMU, Li Guodong, deputy director of the Office of Students’ Affairs of Transportation Institute of IMU and Duan Manfu, deputy director of the Division of International Cooperation and Exchange of IMU.

The Visit to GISMA University of Applied Sciences

On October 22, 2023, Wu Limin and the delegation members visited GISMA University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam, Germany and had discussions and exchanges with Prof. Stefan Stein, rector of GISMA University of Applied Sciences and Julian Davies, executive director of GISMA University of Applied Science. Both sides reached the consensus on the mutual quality accreditation of MBA and EMBA, sharing of the courses of GISMA University of Applied Sciences, mutual visit by teachers from both universities and short-term exchange of students. Both universities signed a memorandum of cooperation.

The Visit to Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg

On October 23, 2023, Wu Limin-led delegation visited Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg(OGUM) in Germany and had discussions and exchanges with Prof. Jens Strackeljan, rector of OGUM, Prof. Helmut Weiss, vice rector of OGUM and Prof. Thorsten Hall, dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of OGUM and Prof. Jubran Rajub, head of the office of the rector and dean of the prep school of the university. Both sides reached the consensus on joint-building of cooperative educational institutions, establishment of overseas campuses at the other university and promotion of exchanges of teachers and students between two universities and joint scientific research and renewed the cooperation agreement between two universities. Both sides also had in-depth discussions on the joint building of cooperative educational institution-Magdeburg School of IMU and decided to first start cooperation in such four majors: mechanical engineering, electric engineering, computer science and process and systematic engineering and then extend the cooperation to other majors.

The Visit to Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences

On October 24, 2023, Wu Limin and delegation members visited Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences(MSUAS) in Stendal and had discussions with Prof. Susanne Borkowski, vice rector of MSUAS, Prof. Jörn Wüstenberg, head of Service Department(International Office) of MSUAS, Prof. Torsten Schmidt, dean of the Department of Water, Environment, Construction and Safety, Prof. Rene Sonnenberg who is in charge of the major of civil engineering and Prof. Yongjian Ding, chair of the Department of Electric Engineering. Both sides had in-depth discussions on double degree program for electric engineering and civil engineering and reached an initiative consensus. It was decided that two universities would soon sign cooperation agreement online and carried out substantial cooperations.

The Visit to University of Duisburg-Essen

On October 25, IMU delegation paid a visit to University of Duisburg-Essen(UBE), in Essen city, Ruhr Industrial Base, North Rhine Westphalia. The delegation had discussions with Prof. Barbara Albert, rector of UDE, Prof. Petra Günther, director of the International Office of UDE, Prof. Alexander Malkwitz, dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dieter Schramm, dean of the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering(former dean of the Faculty of Engineering), Prof. Axel Hunger, former deputy dean of the Faculty of Engineering who is in charge of the major of international engineering and Frederic Kracht, lecturer of the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering. Based on the previous cooperation between two universities, two sides carried out in-depth discussions on how to put into practice the double degree program for undergraduates and cooperations of teachers of two universities in scientific research, and signed the cooperation agreement.

The Visi to Free University of Brussels

On October 27, 2023, the delegation visited Free University of Brussels(FUB) in Belgium and had discussions with Prof. Sven Van Kerckhoven, dean of Brussels School of Governance(BSG) of FUB, Caroline Liss who is in charge of master degree programs, Tongfi Kim who is in charge of bachelor degree programs, Lei Zhang, director of the International Office, Jurgen Smet who is in charge of Macrom Program, Charlotte Marie Dooms who is in charge of enrollment and Prof. Margherita Pace with BSG. Both sides exchanged ideas about the short-term exchange programs for undergraduate students and postgraduate students and double degree programs and had in-depth discussions about the scientific research cooperation between two universities in governance and engineering. IMU and FUB signed inter-university cooperation agreement in 2021. During this visit, both sides confirmed the specific cooperation programs and exchanged ideas about how to further push forward the programs.

During the visit, the delegation has further specified and deepened the cooperation between IMU and Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, University of Duisburg-Essen and Free University of Brussels. Besides, IMU has also renewed inter-university cooperation agreements with Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and University of Duisburg-Essen, deepened the understanding between IMU and  GISMA University of Applied Sciences and Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, facilitated the signing of new cooperation agreement between IMU and GISMA University of Applied Sciences and reached consensus on signing agreement cooperation online with Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences as soon as possible. This visit by the delegation will further boost the deeper cooperation of IMU with world-prestigious universities, improve the educational quality and level of IMU and  strengthen the influence of IMU around the world.
