The Symposium on Education Informatization in Inner Mongolia and Annual Conference of Inner Mongolia Host Node of China Education and Research Network take place in Hohhot City

To deeply study Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, thoroughly implement the National Strategic Action for Education Digitalization and further boost the digitalized transformation of the education of higher learning, the Symposium on Education Informatization in Inner Mongolia and Annual Conference of Inner Mongolia Host Node of China Education and Research Network(CERNET) took place in Hohhot City from November 24 to 25, 2023. Present at the conference were Li Ying, member of the Education Work Group of the CPC Committee of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region(IMAR), member of the CPC Group of the Education Department of IMAR and deputy director general of the Education Department of IMAR, Gao Guanglai, vice president of IMU and Wu Junming, president of Education Informatization Committee of Inner Mongolia Society of Education(IMSE). Besides, over 110 representatives from the colleges, universities and enterprises in Inner Mongolia attended the conference.

The conference was hosted by the Education Informatization Committee of IMSE and Inner Mongolia Host Node of CERNET. With the theme of “Internet Innovation Boosting Education with Digitalization”, the conference attendees discussed the new development trend of education informatization in IMAR, new achievements in the digitalized transformation and new high level of the service of CERNET in terms of the achievements made by IMAR in digitalized transformation and the service of CERNET in education and scientific research. The attendees focused on what the education informatization development in IMAR involves, shared their experiences and achievements and explored the development trend to boost the in-depth integration of digital technology with education and teaching, steadily strengthen the exchange and cooperation in the development of education digitalization in the region and assist the high-quality development of higher education in IMAR.

At the conference, Li Ying introduced the new opportunities and challenges IMAR is facing in the development and reform of education informatization during the 14th Five-Year Plan period in such aspects as the new basis of education digitalization, new platform for public service, new digitalized teaching model, new starting point for data administration and informatization quality. He hoped to shape a fairer, better and higher-quality education system for colleges and universities in IMAR.

Gao Guanglai introduced the efforts and attempts IMU had made in education informatization and digitalized transformation in terms of IMU’s basic internet facilities, building of all-optical networks, upgrading of smart classrooms and construction of “self-built+sharing” computing power networks.

The experts present at the conference shared the experiences concerned in terms of the construction of informatized scientific research networks, digitalized transformation of universities and colleges, new basis for digital education, new infrastructure for the service of education networks, reform of education and teaching models, system building of the education informatization, all-optical network building practices and data governance and administration.

Prof. Jiang Guangxue, director of the Office of the Committee on Internet Security and Informatization(Data Office) of Peking University, deputy director of the Office of Party and Administration Affairs of Peking University, Top Teacher of Network Education of the Ministry of Education and contract research fellow with the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, summarized the problems existing during the digitalized transformation of universities and colleges and proposed the solutions. Hou Hongxu, director of the Center of Network, Information and Modern Education Technology of IMU, introduced, as the director of Inner Mongolia Host Node of CERNET, the construction of local network resources by CERNET and application of IPv6. Hou especially elaborated on the new infrastructure of education informatization which is based on CERNET. He invited the colleges and universities in Inner Mongolia to get together to build a large-scale internet experiment facility which is advanced, open, feasible, international, sustainable and connected with the existing networks. Wang Fei, director of the Center for Information Management of Hohhot Vocational College, elaborated on the digitalized campus service systems of vocational colleges in a new era and explored the path for the digitalized transformation of vocational colleges. Guo Lizhi, director of the Center for Informatization Development and Management of Inner Mongolia University of Finance and Economics, combining the spirit of “Mongolia horse” with the informatization construction of colleges and universities, probed into the new systems, new development and new chapters of digitalized transformation in a new era. Guo Guangfeng, deputy director of the Center for Network and Information of Baotou Teachers’ College, summed up the practical experiences of the building of all-optical networks of Baotou Teachers’ College. Besides, 4 prestigious education informatization enterprises delivered the excellent reports.

The Education Informatization Committee of IMSE is an academic organization focusing on all-around education informatization and an important branch of IMSE. Under the leadership of the Education Department of IMAR and IMSE, the committee has devoted itself to studying the problems about the law and strategy of education informatization in Inner Mongolia, strengthening the exchange and cooperation among colleges and universities in Inner Mongolia and other provinces and carrying out the research, consultancy, guidance and service in education informatization to boost the construction and development of education informatization in Inner Mongolia. CERNET is a national academic computer network funded by the central government, administered by the Ministry of Education and built and operated by such universities as Tsinghua University and other universities. It is a backbone network of the national networks which supports some national important applications in education and scientific research, the largest national academic network in the world, a key infrastructure for national education modernization, a high-level platform to foster talents for networks and a base for research, development and innovation of key and core technologies in network. As the host node of CERNET, IMU has been committing itself to providing fast, reliable and safe computer networks for scientific research.

Following the philosophy of “Internet Innovation Boosting Education with Digitalization”, the conference has integrated all-around resources in education informatization. With the practice and application in digitalized transformation, the attendees summarized the past achievements, experiences, challenges, difficulties and highlights and had in-depth analysis and exchange. Against the backdrop of CERNET, new digitalized infrastructure, new technologies and new development trends, the conference attendees had discussions about education informatization and digitalized transformation of colleges and universities and reached a broad consensus.
