Recently, the final of the 7th National MAS Case Competition for postgraduate students with a professional degree in Applied Statistics and the summary meeting were held at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. Guided by Professor Liu Yang from the School of Mathematical Sciences of our university, the case work completed by postgraduate students Liu Haohang, Wang Jie and Zhang Man majoring in Applied Statistics won the national first prize. Meanwhile, this case work was selected into the "National Education and Teaching Case Library for Professional Degree in Applied Statistics", and it is the only selected case in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The instructor Liu Yang won the first prize of the 7th National Educational and Teaching Achievement Award for Postgraduate Students with a Professional Degree in Applied Statistics.
This competition was guided by the National Steering Committee for Postgraduate Students with a Professional Degree in Applied Statistics (MAS), jointly sponsored by the Higher Education Branch of the Chinese Statistical Education Society, the National Industrial Statistics Teaching and Research Association and the Chinese Association for Applied Statistics, and undertaken by Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. Since the 7th National MAS Case Competition for postgraduate students with a professional degree in Applied Statistics started in April, a total of 1,236 teams from 191 scientific research institutes and institutions of higher education across the country submitted case works to participate in the competition. After strict reviews of the school-level competitions, regional competitions and the national competition (correspondence review), a total of 76 case works were shortlisted for the on-site defense of the national competition. After fierce competitions in the on-site defense, 20 first prizes, 56 second prizes and 111 third prizes were finally awarded, among which 32 excellent cases were selected into the "National Education and Teaching Case Library for Professional Degree in Applied Statistics".
