IMU hears fascinating presentation on plants, allelopathy

A fascinating insight into the world of plants and of allelopathy – the process where one plant releases chemical compounds that can influence or even inhibit the growth of another – was provided at a recent lecture at the School of Life Sciences of Inner Mongolia University (IMU).

IMU, in Hohhot, northern China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, invited Ma Yongqing, a professor from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Northwest A&F University, to give the presentation a lecture on Oct 11.

Themed with “allelopathy and root parasitic plants”, the lecture attracted the participation of 30 teachers and students from IMU’s School of Life Sciences, the Research Center for Standardized Production Engineering Technology of Traditional Chinese and Mongolian Medicinal Materials and the Key Biotechnology Laboratory for Forage and Characteristic Crops.

Professor Ma explained and revealed the physiological mechanisms behind allelopathy, through a combination of theory and practice in his lecture, IMU university officials said.
