School of Marxism was founded in July, 2015. Its precursor was Teaching and Research office of Marxism and Leninism, which was the department-level teaching unit of Inner Mongolia University in 1957. The present dean of the school is Zhu Bingwen, the Secretary of Party Committee of Inner Mongolia University, and the General Secretary of Party Branch is Professor Chen Zhi.
School of Marxism is a secondary unit under the direct leadership of the university, mainly in charge of teaching the courses of ideological and political theory to all the undergraduates and postgraduates at the university, constructing the discipline of Marxism Theory(Level 1), undertaking the scientific researches and cultivating postgraduates. At the same time, the school undertakes social services in publicizing Marxism, particularly Socialism with Chinese Characteristics and policy-making consulting for the development of economy and society in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
Currently, the school has 6 teaching and research offices: Basic Principles of Marxism, Sinicization of Marxism, Ideological and Political Education, Essentials of Modern History of China, Ethnic Theory and Policy, and Mongolian- Taught Section. There are 28 full-time faculty members including 10 professors and associate professors, 15 faculty members with doctorate degree, accounting for 53.6% of the total. Five ideological and political theory courses are all the core courses at the university level. Among them, Mao Zedong Thought and the Theory of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics is an Excellent Course at the regional level, and Ideological and Ethical Cultivation and Basics of Law and the Basic Principles of Marxism are Excellent Courses at the university level.
The school offers Doctorate Degree Program in Basic Principles of Marxism (Level 2) and Master Degree Program in Marxism Theory(Level 1). The Basic Principles of Marxism is the key discipline at the regional level, while Marxism Theory the key discipline at the school level.
The Research Center for the Sinicization of Marxism and Ethical Development, as one of the 1st batch of Key Research Centers of Humanities and Social Sciences for higher educational institutions in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, was enlisted in key disciplines construction in “211 Project” in the third phase at Inner Mongolia University in 2009, and was enlisted in the Base Promotion Program of Education Department of Inner Mongolia in 2012.
In the future, School of Marxism will stick firmly to the orientation of the subject, focus on the strategic target of building up “a high-level research-oriented university with distinctive characteristics” of Inner Mongolia University, and reinforce and perfect the previous achievements. Meanwhile, the school will strive to make advances in discipline constructing and teaching faculty, teaching level, scientific researches and social services.
