The College of Computer Science was founded in 1997. The College of Software was established in 2005. Two colleges are the same entity which has two different names.

At present, the college consists of the Department of Computer Science, Department of Software Engineering, Department of Data Science and Computing Center (Experiment Center). It offers such undergraduate majors as Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering and Data Science and Big Data Technology. The major of Computer Science and Technology and that of Software Engineering are selected as the candidates for the development of national first-class undergraduate majors and the major of Information Management and that of Information System as the candidates for the development of regional first-class undergraduate majors. The college offers the doctor’s degree program and post-doctoral program of the discipline of Computer Science and Technology, master’s degree programs of 2 disciplines of Computer Science and Technology and Software Engineering and professional master’s degree program of Electronic Information. The discipline of Computer Science and Technology has been selected as a regional-level top-notch development discipline. The college has two research platforms at the national and ministerial level: the National & Local Joint Engineering Research Center of Intelligent Information Processing Technology for Mongolian and Engineering Research Center for Ecological Big Data, the Ministry of Education(MOE), and 5 regional-level key laboratories and engineering laboratories: Laboratory of Wireless Networks and Mobile Computing, Laboratory of Information Processing Technology for Mongolian, Laboratory of Social Computing and Data Processing, Laboratory of Cloud Computing and Service Software and Laboratory of Analytical Technology for Big Data.

The college now has a staff of 97, of which 80 are full-time teachers and 17 teaching-assisting and administrative members. Of the teachers, 24 are professors(research fellows), 26 associate professors(associate research fellows) and 62 with doctor’s degree, 7 of which have got their doctor’s degrees at foreign universities. Among its faculty members there are 22 PhD student supervisors and 62 master student supervisors. The college has 1 teacher with title of Expert who enjoys the special allowance of the State Council, 3 with the title of Regional Middle-Aged and Young Experts with Outstanding Contributions, 8 with Grassland Talent Program of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region(IMAR), 4 with the IMAR Program for 321 Talents in a New Century and 5 with “Steed Program for High-Level Talents” of Inner Mongolia University.

The college has had its huge advantages in such fields as intelligent information processing of Mongolian, speech recognition and synthesis, internet of things and block chain, big data and cloud computing and formal methods of software. The high-level research results of its faculty members have been published in such international top journals as IEEE TSE, IEEE TC, IEEE TMC, IEEE TSC, IEEE/ACM TASLP, IEEE TWC and IEEE TMM and accepted by such top conferences as IEEE INFOCOM, ACM UbiComp, ICCV, ACL and IEEE ICASSP, which exerts influence at home and abroad. Its team of Internet Protocol Engineering and Intelligent Information Processing and that of Cloud Computing and Software Engineering are selected as regional-level scientific and technological innovation teams; the team of Research and Development of Mongolian Software has been chosen as the Talent Team for Industrial Innovation with Grassland Talent Program and the team of Internet of Things as the regional-level Team for Scientific and Technological Innovation at Universities. In recent 5 years, the college has had over 110 research projects at or above provincial and ministerial level approved and supported, of which 28 are national-level ones. The grants of the projects total RMB more than 60 million. The college has got involved in setting 7 national, local and organizational standards. It has 14 research results winning the 2nd prizes of MOE Awards for Scientific and Technological Progress, CCF Awards for Science and Technology-Awards for Scientific and Technological Progress, 2nd prizes of IMAR Awards for Natural Science. The college has also had 3 teaching achievements winning the 2nd prizes of IMAR Awards for Excellent Teaching Achievements and 1 teaching achievement winning the 3rd prize of IMAR Awards for Excellent Teaching Achievements. The college now has 1924 students, of which 74 are PhD students, 906 master students and 944 undergraduate students.
