The School of Physical Education of Inner Mongolia University(IMU), is a teaching and research institution which was officially established in April 2017 with the approval of the Ministry of Education(MOE) in 2016. With the Department of Physical Education being its predecessor, the school has a long history of teaching, training and competition. In 2017, the school began to enroll undergraduate students in the major of Sports Training. With the years of development, the school has gradually enlarged its size and improved its level in education. In 2022, its major of Sports Training was selected as the candidate for the development of the regional first-class undergraduate majors. The school now has a staff of 44, of which 5 are professors, 11 associate professors, 17 lecturers. Of all the teachers, 1 has doctor’s degree and 25 have master’s degree.

Being the regionally prestigious university which has a glorious history, IMU has attached great importance to its sports development. In 2000, IMU was awarded respectively by the Education Department of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region(IMAR) and MOE the regional-level and national-level title of Excellent University in Implementing the Regulation on Sports Work of Universities. In 2001, the Education Department of IMAR awarded to IMU the title of Advanced Institution in Work of Sports, Health, Arts and Defence Education of Schools, Colleges and Universities. In 2015, the course of College Physical Education of the school was selected as the regional-level Excellent Course. IMU has been selected by MOE as the national-level university for the development of high-level teams of football and athletics. IMU has made rapid progress in sports competition and the achievements its sports teams have made rank top among the universities and colleges in IMAR. Its sports teams have scored well in the sports events in IMAR and other provinces. In 2022, IMU was listed in the first batch of 20 universities with the Public Welfare Program for Football of College Students of China Football Development Foundation. In the same year, IMU was chosen as the Base for Inheritance of Chinese Fine Traditional Culture of Archery.

The School of Physical Education has been exploring for the major of Sports Training the philosophy, path and basic laws in education and endeavors to cultivate the application-oriented sports talents who grow in morality, intelligence, sports, aesthetics and labor, who can adapt to the demands of Chinese modernization and construction of a sports power, who acquire the basic theories, knowledge and professional skills of competitive sports, strong ability in practice and innovative spirit, who are competent in sports training, scientific research, competition and management and who can engage in school’s physical education, teaching and guidance of social sports. In the new era, the School of Physical Education will further give play to the advantages of IMU as a university for the development of “first-class discipline”, closely follow the paces of the times, position its discipline in IMAR and the country, perfect the system for the discipline development and improve the level of education so as to make contributions to the development of the sports of IMAR and the country.
