Established in 2008, the College of History and Tourism Culture consists of the Department of History, Department of Tourism Management and Department of Archaeology, Cultural Relics and Museology. It has formed a talent cultivation system offering bachelor’s degree programs, master’s degree programs and doctor’s degree programs. The college offers 5 undergraduate majors including History, History(Base for Literature, History and Philosophy-a regional-level base for teaching reform and experiment), Tourism Management, Cultural Relics and Museology and Archaeology, of which the major of History and that of Tourism Culture are the candidates for the development of national first-class undergraduate majors. The master’s degree program of the discipline of Chinese History enrolls master students in its sub-disciplines of Ancient Chinese History, Modern and Contemporary Chinese History, Specialized History, Archaeology and Museology. The master’s degree program of the sub-discipline of Tourism Management enrolls master students in Operation and Management of Tourism and Tourism Planning and Management. The doctor’s degree program of the discipline of Chinese History enrolls PhD students in Ancient Chinese History and Modern and Contemporary Chinese History. As of September 2023, the college has 829 students.

Following IMU’s motto of “Seeking Truth and Being Pragmatic” and fulfilling the university’s spirit of “Upholding True Knowledge and Pursuing Excellence”, the college endeavors to cultivate the high-quality talents who develop themselves in an all-around way in moral education, intelligent education, physical education, aesthetic education and labor education and who have a strong basis of basic professional knowledge, strong ability of social practice and awareness for innovation. Relying on such regional key research bases of universities and colleges for humanities and social sciences as the Research Base for Society, History and Culture  in Inner Mongolia, IMU Center for Tourism Research and Planning, IMU Research Center for Grassland Culture Heritage, Digital Simulation Laboratory for Tourism and Laboratory of Archaeology, Cultural Relics and Museology, the college carries out talent cultivation, scientific research, social service, civilization inheritance and cultural innovation.

The college has a staff of 59. 50 of them are full-time teachers, of which 11 are professors, 15 associate professors, 42 doctors, 7 PhD student supervisors, 29 master student supervisors. It has 6 part-time master student supervisors, 1 teacher with the title of Expert who enjoys the special allowance of the State Council and 2 with the title of Regional Expert with Outstanding Contributions.

In recent 5 years, the college has made many achievements in scientific research including 14 projects supported by the National Social Science Fund of China whose grants total over 3 million yuan, more than 150 academic articles and 21 academic monographs which have been published.

Adhering to the research philosophy of “Seeking Truth with Character of Integrity and Admiring Beauty with Principles of Tourism”, the college carries forward fine history and culture, advocates modern tourism culture and encourages students to “learn more, act more and think more, seek truth and pursues kindness and beauty” in the inheritance of knowledge and pursuit of truth. The College of History and Tourism Culture endeavors to cultivate high-quality talents who develop themselves in an all-around way in moral education, intelligent education, physical education, aesthetic education and labor education and who have a strong basis of basic professional knowledge, strong ability of social practice and awareness for innovation. It sticks to its fine tradition of seeking truth and being pragmatic and tries to create free academic environment and learning atmosphere for its teachers and students. In the future, the college will forge ahead with an innovative spirit, integrate resources and organize strong research teams to try to make important breakthroughs in the research of important issues and make more contributions to the social development and the building of a culturally strong autonomous region in its attempt to construct a first-class discipline and a first-class university.
