In the spring and summer of 2008, Manzhouli College of Inner Mongolia University(IMU)-the first college in Manzhouli City, was established with the century-old expectations of 100,000 people in the border city and the devotion of IMU, the Communist Party of China(CPC) Committee of Manzhouli City and the People’s Government of the City. In 2010, "Manzhouli Russian Language Vocational College" was officially launched. From then on, the college has started to explore the path for talent cultivation, service of the local economic development, unique talent cultivation mode of Russian plus profession and vocational education.
Inheriting the spirit of IMU’s motto of “Seeking Truth and Being Pragmatic”, the college has formed its own education principle of “Based in the Border Area, Adopting National Vison, Taking Talent Cultivation as Basic Task and Strengthening College with Distinctive Characteristics”. Relying on the geo-advantages of Manzhouli City as a land port, the college has been adhering to the education standard of “Being of High Starting Point, Characteristics, Internationalization and High-Quality”. Led by the education in Russian, the majors of the college have developed harmoniously to cultivate the application-oriented talents who the economic development in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region(IMAR) and other provinces need and who have ability to communicate and compete internationally and develop in an all-around way.
Since its establishment, the college has received wide attention from all walks of life. Such Party and state leaders as Liu Yunshan, Jiang Shusheng, Hu Chunhua and Baatar and IMAR Party and government leaders like Buxiaolin inspected the college and expressed ardent expectations for the college. The well-known Russian scholars like doctor Mikhail Leontievich Titarenko, academician of Russian Academy of Sciences and president of Russia-China Friendship Association, academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chinese Academy of Sciences like Gui Binglin and Shorgan and presidents and scholars from nearly 100 universities in Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan visited the college or gave academic lectures at the college.
The faculty of the college has become stronger and stronger. For years, IMU has sent its teachers to help the college with its development. They and the young teachers of the college have devoted themselves to the students and the development of the college.
With years of development, the college has added such supporting facilities as the multi-function library, building for students’ internship and practice, guest house and gym(indoor football gym) besides the Main Building for Teaching. In addition, the college has built the off-campus bases for students’ internship and practice and employed on a flexible basis the experts and senior engineers at home and abroad to fully ensure the development of the teaching and scientific research of the college.
Based on the needs of the country and autonomous region for their economic and social development and the needs of the development of the college’s disciplines, the college has proactively adapted itself to the strategic adjustment of the country and the autonomous region in economic structure and social transformation and needs of the talent market and strengthened the development of the application-oriented disciplines and majors. The college now offers 10 undergraduate majors including Russian Language and Literature, Tourism Management, International Economics and Trade, Finance, Law, Administrative Management, Chinese Language and Literature, Journalism, Visual Communication and Environment Design. The college offers dual degree programs in 4 majors: Russian Language and Literature, Finance, Chinese Language and Literature and Law. Led by Russian education, the majors the college offers have developed in a balanced way. The college has highlighted and kept its educational characteristics of attaching importance to cultivating professional talents of Russian and talents of Russian+another major and intends to build itself into a teaching-oriented college with distinctive characteristics which is influential at home and abroad.
Since its establishment, Manzhouli College has established cooperation with over 10 universities including Transbaikal State University, Buryat State University, Baikal State University, Dostoevsky Omsk State University and other universities about joint education, joint hosting of scientific symposiums and forums, exchange of students and teachers and joint cultural and sports activities.
Cultural confidence is the basis of national cohesion and the only way for China to develop from a rich country to a strong country. Since it was founded, the college has attached importance to the development of the activities and organizations of the Communist Youth League and students and the construction of campus culture. At the college, there are self-governing organizations of students such as students’ union and students’ federation and dozens of students’ clubs and associations including academic associations such as Club for Research and Study, associations of literature and arts such as Guitar Association and Street Dance Club, sports clubs such as Badminton Club and Basketball Club, public welfare clubs such as Volunteer Society and Environmental Protection Association, which further enrich the campus life of the students.
“Our journey is the sea of stars”, which is a line in the song of Manzhouli College, is not only an encouragement to the students of the college, but also a description of the development of the college. The Manzhouli College will forge ahead under the guidance of the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, lay a solid foundation under the guidance of IMU’s motto of "Seeking Truth and Being Pragmatic ", bear fruits in the fertile soil of “key development, opening and experimental zone” and move forward with the expectation of the people in the border city.
