Founded in December, 1999, the International College of Education of Inner Mongolia University(IMU) is an institution that is responsible for the recruitment, management, service and language training of the international students of IMU. Since the 1980s when IMU began to recruit international students, the college has trained and graduated over 4000 international students from over 60 countries and regions in five continents. The college has formed a multi-level and multi-disciplinary education and management system for international students which covers the education for language students, students of advanced studies, exchange students, undergraduate students, master students and PhD students. Now the college has over 500 students from such over 20 countries as Mongolia, Russia, Spain, Finland, Japan, Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, India, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, Togo, Nigeria and Benin.

With the years of exploration and development, the college has formed a scientific and effective teaching system for language and culture. Its teachers flexibly apply the targeted teaching methods and fully make use of smart and multi-media teaching facilities. According to the language proficiency of the students, the college offers the language training classes at 4 different levels-beginner level, primary level, intermediate level and advanced level, and language-related courses concerning listening, speaking, writing, reading and comprehensive ability. The college pours energy into offering extra-curriculum activities like calligraphy, paper-cutting, Tai Chi and tea art and carrying out such popular activities as “Perceiving China”, “Perceiving Inner Mongolia”, “International Cultural Festival”, “International Day for Chinese”, “Chinese Culture Week”,  “Call for Writings”, “Reciting Competition”, “Talent Show” , and “Writing Recording” to enrich the cultural life of the international students, deepen the understanding of Chinese culture by the international students, greatly improve Chinese proficiency of the international students and lay a solid foundation of language and culture for their  professional study.

Besides modernized teaching facilities, flexible teaching methods, service-oriented teaching management and diversified cultural perceptions, the International College of Education provides comfortable accommodations for the international students. The college has 3 apartment buildings for the international students where there are single rooms, double rooms and four-person rooms which are equipped with beds, desks, wardrobes, TVs and internet interface and where there are bathrooms and provision of 24-hour hot water. On each floor of the buildings, there are shared kitchens, washing machines and water purifiers which can satisfy the daily needs of the international students. There are cafeterias on the campuses of IMU, which can cater to the different tastes of the international students.
