To build a first-class university with distinctive characteristics, first-class talent teams and first-class scientific research platforms, Inner Mongolia University(IMU) has reached an agreement with the team of Zhao Dongyuan, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) and both sides officially established, in July 2022, the College of Energy Materials and Chemistry to jointly carry out the discipline development and scientific innovative research and improve IMU's disciplines of chemistry and materials. Through heavily investing in the advantageous resources, the college intends to develop and build the national key scientific research platforms with local characteristics, carry out the research on the problems in the latest developments of science and technology and improve its ability to serve the key strategies of China and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region(IMAR) to try to make a batch of significant achievements in the basic research and applied basic research and drive the development of the disciplines of chemistry and materials in IMAR.
The College of Energy Materials and Chemistry takes the initiative to respond to the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial revolution and support and serve the national strategies like innovation-driven development. The Center for Scientific Innovation in Material Chemistry will keep endeavoring in the innovative research in such fields as chemistry, chemical engineering and material engineering. On the basis of its innovative basic research and applied basic research, the college will conduct the research and development of new technologies to try to produce the technological achievements in electronic materials, catalytic materials, energy storage materials and biomedical materials and improve its energy level to serve the high-quality development of the economic and social development of the country and the autonomous region. The college is to construct the national-level teams of leading talents of its disciplines at different levels which are led by the academician of CAS and attract and cultivate the national-level leading talents of its disciplines and national-level excellent young talents.
The College of Energy Materials and Chemistry is located on the south campus of IMU and has a planned floor area of 20,000 square meters. It will be built into a sharing technological platform which has advanced performance, complete structure and strong functions. The college has assembled a batch of academically leading researchers including academician of CAS, Distinguished Professors with Chang Jiang Scholars Program of the Ministry of Education, winners of the support of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and high-level talents who join IMU through Steed Program of IMU, who have formed an interdisciplinary and vigorous research team. Besides, the college will establish a technological service team that consists of high-level experiment technicians.
The goal of the College of Energy Materials and Chemistry is to develop itself with persistent efforts into an innovative research platform with distinctive characteristics in the western part of the country and strive to become a national first-class laboratory of material science research with local characteristics.
